Thank you Henry, to be honest I didn't think much of it, but am keen to get Philip's hand into his wallet for a 28mm, so posted.

I like the 28mm, and in combo with the 50, it is a nice two lens system.

I'm still plagued by the dust lines on the Minolta, not sure what to do about it actually.

Your river scenes Adam, all with gorgeous out of bed early or late evening light. I wonder what they'd look like at midday?

Gary

Hi Gary - Interesting question.  I don't think that I would like these scenes with general midday weather and I'd ended up telling myself "man, this shot would look great at the crack of dawn, or at dusk, or at the midnight hour..." and I'd end up not being satisfied with my midday shot b/c of the fact that there is a better shot out there.  We just don't get deep blue skies and clarity of air to be able to have nicely well-balanced colorful shots in NYC.  This is a gross generalization, but still.

I also am very slowly building up a focused collection that in a few years may amount to material for a web-gallery with fine prints for purchase.

I saw a youtube video of a guy who has made millions being a "Grand Canyon photographer".  His name is Alain Briot (French, no offense to Henry) and he is basically full of bullshit but has been able to fund the purchase of a few houses and some exotic cars with the prints that he has been able to sell as "fine art."  If a slick Frenchman can do this, I figure that a slick New Yorker can do it too!! :)

I'm surprised you didn't throw the camera, film and all, into the river  :p

I suspect they would be fairly flat. Morning and Evening light is almost always preferable and more flattering to such subjects. Adam?

Yes, Mark, this is true in the case of NYC weather.  It is not so much that there is a huge problem with midday weather here; it's just that dawn and dusk can be so dramatic against the metropolis that the surrealism is quite awesome.

I like your brain contortion exercise, Adam; it makes perfect sense to my lawyer brain.

Yes, Philip, well it is coming from a tax lawyer brain so at least we are the same wave length.  I do brain contortions as a day job :)

I think at midday Adam is too busy working to pay for all his film....

yes, exactly, except on my lunch/gym break when I am consuming 35mm film around the neighborhood (with one hand and ear on my work emails on my iPhone...)

Thank you for posting this photo, Gary. In addition to being nice and contrasty (which I like) with a compelling perspective and composition, I think it shows very well how much wider 28mm is compared to 35mm. I am beginning to think that I'd be right in adding a 28mm lens to my bag - it is a focal length I would use a lot.

Philip.

I have the 28mm M, V3 (I think, it is the E49 version).

It's nice, I like it, but am struggling to put my fingers on a scanned shot with it to show you.

I know this one was with it, not fantastic, but OK. I'm trying to emulate Ric and just use the 50mm Summicron on my M6 for a while.

The 28 Elmarit is a great lens on the M8, and I use mine a bit on the T as well, nice size, weight, and focal length. The later/latest asph version is sharper/smaller etc, but many like the earlier versions better.

A pleasure Philip.

I made myself a promise to not sell any Leica lenses. Digital bodies, well yes, but not lenses.

My meager lens collection is not worth much anyway, but I like the idea of having a 28mm if needed, and the 35mm is so handy. You MUST have a 50mm too, so that is my lot, albeit with a couple of 50's, one being an old Canon 50/1.4 LTM.

The Elmarit 28mm is quite reasonably priced these days, and I'd source a V3 or V4, I think they are either E49, or E46, respectively.

A playful one... water blown out on purpose to create this floating in space look.

Regarding not selling Leica gear:

1x M6 (used regularly)

1x M6 (used occasionally)

1x 28mm Elamarit (used twice)

1x35mm Summicron (used once)

1x50mm Summicron (used regularly)

1x90mm Elmarit (never used)

Plus:

Contax TVS II (one roll of film, only)

Contax T2 (used regularly)

Plus that Rolleiflex just as soon as I find a decent one. Erm, I need a rethink.

Jerusalem (and a Bedouin tent nearby) 1981 in Kodachrome. Camera was my Canon TL and the lens was a Canon FD 50mm ..... because scanning is always a matter of interest, I use a plustek 8200i and the latest vuescan software and then I work my magic (so to speak) in CaptureOne 9 ---
