35mm Cron ASPH first shots; HP5 @ box speed, HC110 5mins @20C

I think the focus is better!! What do you think? Some strange band from the scanning though...

I had a similar band once when I got up from my chair and bumped the table and my scanner (plustek) must have moved, I noticed on preview after scan so just re scanned no band this time

It is a very nice photograph of the children, I think. The line (or is it lines?) could be from development. Is it on the neg? I've never seen such an artefact on a scan that wasn't on the neg.

Henry, both are very nice and atmospheric. I prefer the Tri-X version. I think, unfortunately, you didn't quite nail focus with the 35/1.4, though. A colour neg converted would still be sharp. In my experience, conversion of colour images will require more post-processing than a b&w image of the same motif. Here's a version I made in Photoshop on my iPhone. It is still not as crisp/sharp as the Tri-X (no sharpening applied) so that leads me to think the focus is a bit off on the original. In any event, Laon seems definitely worthy of a visit. Lovely place judging by the photos you've posted.

Your conclusion about sharpness and definition ?

I remind you that I did no correction :)

For me the conclusion is clear ,  but I'll let you comment :)

I agree with you that the post is small, but I have the original  (12 MB)

that I can send you.

For me , the focus is perfect Paul :)

For the trait, it's not rather from the negative ? you developed yourself or external laboratory ?

Is it on all of your pictures in the same place ?

Nice shot

Paul, which scanner are you using?

I have my Plustek 7400 making similar linear marks while the negative is free of any mark!

Philip,  you're right about lens ...

I'll test again with same lens another subject , may be flower with my Macro Elmar 90

and on tripod this time !

...   but my original b&w picture is sharp and also my Portra 160.

Thanks for your opinion  :)

I had a similar band once when I got up from my chair and bumped the table and my scanner (plustek) must have moved, I noticed on preview after scan so just re scanned no band this time

I have done that as well! Gave a more definite "bend", a bit like when a patient moves in a CT scanner (I'm a radiologist, so cant help comparing!)

Paul, which scanner are you using?

I have my Plustek 7400 making similar linear marks while the negative is free of any mark!

Im using a Plustek 8100 - thanks for your feedback! My focussing has been a real problem so to see an in focus subject in a scan was a real joy...just the artefact to sort out now!

Best wishes

P

Another rainy photo, from a year ago. Shows how tricky transparency film can be when used in higher contrast environments. With C41 it would have been possible to bring out "Gifts" (a lot) more, but with transparencies there's very little information in blown highlights. Btw, this photo is unprocessed; the linear scan has only been developed in ColorPerfect.
