wattsy Posted August 10, 2015 Share #6184  Posted August 10, 2015 Ian for the last picture it looks like cliff Blanc Nez in Calais or Etretat cliff in Normandy Very nice pictures Ian , specially the portrait. Your daughter ? Thanks for sharing  Thanks Henry. The photo shows part of the western coast of the isle of Wight, part of the same great chalk dominated landscape that stretches into Northern France so it's no accident that it reminds you of the cliffs you mention.  Yes, the portrait is of my daughter.

Bart D Posted August 10, 2015 Share #6188  Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) Bart, I would suggest the the lab has done a great disservice to your roll of XP2 - the tones should be rich and the grain quite fine.  Did they actually process it as a C41 film?  Thanks, Keith. No idea how the film was processed. Next time, I'll try to find an alternative service.  Bart , I counsel you to develop yourself your films , it will be cheaper and it's a job "well done" The scanners are cheap now, new or occasion. Epson Scan is a good brand and cheap The best is an enlarger instead of the scanner to develop in silver paper ...  Best Henry  I have never developed anything myself, Henry. So, to see that job well done would demand "some" learning on my part Later, when I would have more free time on my hands, that would most certainly be a path to consider.   I wonder if your XP2 is overexposed. Overexposed XP2 scan very poorly, but prints fine. My experience and tests tell me that XP2 works optimally exposed as 200 ASA. You can do it as low as 50 ASA, but the thick negatives don't scan well. They seem to be very grainy and flat. Also - could it be that your lab did not process it in C41 chemicals?  I did set the meter for 400 but I don't think I overexposed, Michael. I didn't notice peculiar relations between aperture and shutter speed.  I don't know if the lab used C41 or not but that could be consistent with the results, according to the reactions here and to what I read.  PS  thank you all for the help!
