By the way, I have sent a message to Andreas asking whether we might be allowed to have a thread or a sub-forum dedicated to film photographs of all kinds (even if not taken with Leica equipment). At present none of our medium format, large format or even other 35mm film photographs can be shared here. I understand and agree that this forum should be principally for Leica photography, and none of us want it to be over-run with digital images from any old brand of camera. But there aren't an awful lot of us dedicated film photographers left, and it's very encouraging for us to be able to get together and share whatever we make. I don't see that it would damage Leica sales to be able to show 35mm film SLR images, medium format film images and even large format film images here, given that Leica is no longer in those markets. All it can do is to increase forum traffic without detracting from Leica sales. I suggested that images might be restricted be being hosted off-site so that it wouldn't increase his hosting costs. Obviously, it is his forum and his decision, but I thought it no harm to ask!

Chris

Chris , I also wrote directly to Andreas. Without going into film quarrel against digital, an experienced photographer

gets to see the difference between film and digital.

See the previous example of electric wire crop .

Thanks for your intervention.

Thanks for doing this Chris. I have had thoughts in this direction too. There is in the German part of the forum an excellent 6x6 thread which has been running since 2013 with mainly if not only film photos, so non-Leica film photos are at the very least tolerated.

Given the current Euro mess I guess there could be any number of associations from this photo. From a recent business trip to Schuman.

Philip - random question for you: did you ever buy that Nikon FH-869GR medium format film carriage adapter for your Nikon Coolscan?  If so, is it a lot better than the carriage that comes with the scanner?

I made this selfie at the Museum Ettore Fico in Turin, while visiting the exhibition of the photos taken by Jacques Henri Lartigue.

It has been super cropped, so you see a lot of grain…. and it seems I'm with her on the boat :-)

Hi Adam - I got that one with the scanner and have used it once or twice but find it a bit tricky to use because it can only do one frame at a time.

What I did instead was to buy Focal Point's anti-newton glass for the FH-869S (Mike at FP offers really great service). I also bought the 1mm plain glass to use underneath but it is in most situations not necessary as only rarely will a strip not be flat enough (and also I - but very, very, very rarely - Newton rings with both sheets of glass). Here's a photo of the S open, currently with both pieces of glass in it. Note how I've just used duct tape to attach the 3mm AN glass. It works well and feels secure enough.

Given what the GR sells for (insane), the Focal Point solution is (a lot) cheaper, more user-friendly and gives at least as good results with very sharp corners.

Thanks, Henry.  Ha, ha, no, I don't dev KP myself.  that is a scary thought :)

C-41 developing is actually very simple to anyone who has done B&W developing. One recipe with no choice about chemicals, one set of times, one agitation schedule, standardised temperature. Boringly simple! If you ever decide to try it I will walk you through the process.

Perfectly agree, it would be a good thing to try to prove that film photography still exists, and not just in the Leica world.

Other forums (Pentax for instance) are literally flooded by digital pics in such a way people forget film still exists and can't even recognise a good film picture.
