Must admit I now find film indispensable for 'personal' family type photography – it just looks and feels right for this kind of subject matter.

As a sidenote I must also point out how much I like 'Poundland' film (AgfaVista 200) – in fact, I prefer it, in the main, to the saintly Portra. :o

That said, I'm also finding myself increasingly dissatisfied with my venerable Monochrom for my more 'serious'  stuff (for reasons I can't fully fathom but I think it's the clarity and resolution – just too much of it – and, for all the so-called "malleability" of the files, the tonality just often isn't right) and find even 35mm ISO 400 film is doing the trick.

Ian ... but I think pictures are prettier in general rendering on (silver) paper (vs MM) through an enlarger (not a inkjet printer and PC) :)

Really nice the last one !

I'm not sure it comes down to the paper or the method of putting the photograph on the paper – after all, it is easy to get C-type fibre prints made from digital files (including the Monochrom) and, conversely, film can be scanned and printed on an inkjet – it seems more fundamental to me than that. It is a difference in basic tonality and the balance of clarity and detail, no matter what the viewing medium might be.

Ian,

I will show you (but difficult for me , I sold my Epson flat bed scan V700) that the same picture enlarged with my Focomat on silver paper (Ilford paper) is better in rendering and may be sharper than the same printed in inkjet by my Leica Lab Center ... and with a bonus : no smooth edges and lines of digital  :)

It reminds me of the thread on the scanners that we did together several years ago !

...... the printing process is not at all the same as how to make the photographic paper
With the silver layers of photographic paper  (as in the negative) the "printing" or the "sensitization" result  is between the silver layercoming from the (light) of the enlarger. For the inkjet it's only a deposit of the ink on a single plane of the paper

Henry, I really like all your mountain shots. I guess not many capture shots like this on film nowadays.

Thanks, it was really dark at the museum and I had use 1/10s for many shots (handheld). I thought the slow speed would show more but some shots are better viewed at the small size I posted above ;)

I will trade in my Summarit-M 50/2.5 tomorrow... for a Leica tripod with head B)

very, very nice composition and colors, Henry.  But it looks a good 1-2 stops underexposed on my monitor.

your statement above is ironic and circular.... :)

Adam, your remark is right but it is a simple inversion :D

I should have said :

" M9 is very close to the color of the film" (you can tell me that this is normal) ... because the sensor is manufactured by Kodak

For the picture ,"the eye of the master" :)

...  I added a little exposure and a little contrast ,  it's going now ?
