Thanks, Henry. I find the cinestill 50 to render slightly differently depending on the level of exposure to direct sunlight. This is why I have said that I feel that the portra 160 is a more balanced and consistently rendered film. Having said this, the one element of consistentcy that I find with the cinestill 50 is the element of a golden glow, though the extent of this also depends on the level of sunlight in the frame

You need to explain how you got this amazing color from the cinestill 50!

Did you shot it at ISO 50?

Development at lab?

Scanning at home or lab?

I had not very good results with my first roll of cinestill 50..... :-(

Thank you,

Massimo

Thanks, Massimo.

I indeed shot it at 50

I developed at my regular lab in NYC

I scanned myself using my nikon coolscan 9000.

I also notice a tendency for variation among different exposures.  Your most recent examples appear somewhat contrasty.  Not sure what quality of scans they are.  But I wouldn't have thought that your 35 cron would be that contrasty.   I might suggest that you seek out some flatter scans and then PP from there?

Thank Adam for your reply.

I used my Plustek 7400 and Vuescan 9.4. I had some issue in finding the right setting, with generic 35mm color film the scan was bad, and finally I used the setting for the Ektar 100. I will try some more settings.

However it seems, as you said, that the cinestill is reacting in different ways depending by the light. I found a better results when the scene is not totally exposed to sunligth.

Cheers

Massimo
