second picture , also uncropped and uncorrected :)

What is good is that the Macro Elmar is very discreet with M7 rangefinder ,

this forms a good combination

Macro Elmar 90 (no monopod) at f:8

Kodak Portra 160 - Leica M7

Hi Henry - The first image that you have posted has some interest due to the fleeting nature of the woman and the red patterns in the background. It reminds me very much of the images that MSV shares in the Street Photography Forum. I am not sure that I would make a practice of shooting this type of potography with film, though, as I wolud imagine that the results will be quite random and the keeper-rate quite low (and thus possibly wasteful from a cash perspective).

With regard to the second photo, I am trying to put myself in your shoes and figure out what you saw in the scene to make you want to click the shutter. Was it the beauty of the woman? Did you intend to obtain less than an tack sharp image? Would you like to have obtained a sharper image. If the candid expression on the woman's face was what locked you into the scene but you wish that your shot came out sharper, we can definitely discuss how to get a result that is more in line with what you envisioned. I am totally guessing here, so feel free to correct my intimations. All the best, Adam

Very interesting post from Adam.

Indeed I can better understand the motivations of the street Adam photo

I now understand that it's hard to get a good picture

I am in the testing phase for now. The second photo I took, that's the dress of the girl with her boyfriend who hesitated

(it is expected to enter the shoe store), but his friend did not want and tried to prevent it

What also interests me is to see the physiognomy of every face that expresses in a given time the feeling of each person.

No face of are alike and the same.

How I made these photos, I stayed in a corner of one busy street and I watched what's interesting to shoot . Maybe

not the same thought that has Adam

Thanks again Adam for your comment

Hi Henry - Thanks for sharing. I see that your interest in fashion and expressions is very similar to mine! That's great and you should keep capturing those moments as much as possible. I would just make a couple of points:

1. I don't think that portra 160 is the right film for this. It is too slow and it seems that you didn't have nearly enough light to have a sufficiently fast shutter speed.

2. The use of the 90mm only exacerbated this problem, as you need a shutter of no slower than 1/250 with this lens, and if possible one or two stops faster than this, to catch the moments that you see.

3. This is purely according to your comfort zone, but I would encourage you to get a little closer to your subjects. There are lots of tricks that can be employed to be stealth (if that's what you feel that you need t do) even at 1 meter away.

I think that, with more practice, you should be able to capture moments that are more and more interesting to you. This is a great start, and I want to be clear that I am not in any way challenging your choice of scene or moment, but simply the technical means by which the photo was taken.

When it comes to the 'street' genre, I try to find a link or a juxtaposition between people and their surroundings. One can (like Elliot Erwitt) identify a location that has potential and wait, or (like me) wander aimleslly around and hope for the best(!). Sometimes I like to think it pays off, as here. Entitled 'Ready for the Sun?'
