I left Nikon for simplicity, size, image and build quality, lack of unneeded or unwanted gadgets and Leica lens selection. I made the change knowing it resulted in having limited macro and telephoto capability.

With film the camera and lenses were long-term purchases. You upgraded as better or different film were developed. Today the camera and film are one and a major upgrade requires you to buy another camera. Thanks goodness the lenses remain long-term investments. So, another reason to change systems is poor design leading to short-term obsolescence. Given the cost of any Leica M camera care must be taken to guard against technology changes that limit the short or mid-term value. This is a major problem with most if not all of the want-to-be competition and another reason I purchased my M9 and ordered the M. It is a tricky juggling act to produce timely and sound products with a steep technology curve staring you in the face. Hopefully Leica is up to the task, at their price point there is little room for error.
