NZDavid Posted June 7, 2013 Share #41  Posted June 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The X2 should provide you with some great pictures. I would recommend an OVF. The Voigtländer 35mm finder is very well made and good value. In bright light the LCD is hard to see. The EVF might be helpful but is not essential. Other advice: Go walking with your pack and hiking boots as much as possible beforehand, pack light and and be sure to take plenty of water -- it will make a difference. tredlie Posted June 7, 2013 Author Share #42  Posted June 7, 2013 Thanks David! as regards the OVF: that was my feeling too (the EVF came along with the X2). The OVF should also expand battery life, I could imagine.  Do you have any experience in that regard?  As far as tracking preparations go: your points are well taken. and I am sure the hiker () i s very aware of it, having crossed the Alps before.  greetings  Tred
NZDavid Posted June 7, 2013 Share #43 Â Posted June 7, 2013 Well, I've used the OVF on the X1 but didn't have an EVF. I didn't need to worry with the M6 and of course, even if the battery did give out, I could still shoot manually. I would charge the M9 each day but that's hard when hiking. An extra battery might help. Â It's amazing how much water you get through. Good old scroggin (nuts, dried fruit, chocolate) is a good energy booster.
