Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this Forum, and fairly new to the Leica world as well. I began using my first Leica 35mm cron asph late last year with the then new NEX 6. Been very happy with the combo which I carried with me virtually all the time whenever I travel. NEX 6 is almost as good as a big semi-pro DSLR. It's quite fast, ultra light and handy. The 35mm cron asph is probably the best standard lens I've ever used, ahead of all the 50mm/1.8, 2.0 or 2.8 Nikon & Canon standard lenses I have used. I bought the 50mm cron a few weeks after having used the combo for about a month. Both lenses are very well made, sharp and fast and produce gorgeous images.

But the NEX isn't exactly what the M lenses deserve to go with. And it has limitations on its sensor & image processing, speed, & of course it isn't full frame.

As soon as I read about launch of the Leica M240, I put my name on the pre-order list.

After months of waiting & just before the pent-up anxiety & impatience were about to explode, I had a Santa call on March 26. "The M240 is arriving in 2 days ..... "

Although I haven't had any experience with any of the M series cameras, I am very happy with the new M240. Despite the fact that focussing with the view finder still requires a little more practice & experience with, it's a wonderful camera. I have since bought the 21mm/3.4, the 50 lux asph & the 90 APO cron asph. Depending upon where I go, I usually have 2 lenses with the M240. And they haven't yet failed me.

Disappointment came when I received an email from Leica Solms last Friday. A recall. Apparently some factory defects in the strap eyelets. They could come off anytime. Thank God mine hasn't fallen off my shoulders or wrist in the last 4 weeks. So, it's back in its nursery... Only hopeful that it returns safely in a couple of weeks as they have estimated.

Now, I'm back to square one with my NEX 6 and a bunch of top notch, powerful Leica lenses.

But somehow, as if my world of photography has changed since starting using my Leica lenses, I now hesitate a bit going back to my D700S and a range of Nikon standard, zoom & tele-zoom lenses !!

Welcome to the forum, Rangie, and enjoy your new camera when it is back. Despite the journey

around the world - well, at least sort of - it should be back in HK within 10 days.

Regards

GEORG

Thank you, GEORG.

According to the Solms Service Centre, it'd take no more than 2 days to fix/replace the defective eyelets. It's the shipment and customs which they're uncertain about and unable to offer any guarantee.

Well, fingers crossed.
