M8 Warranty

In thinking of all of the returns of M8's for servicing in Solms and the amount of time that owners/purchasers of this new product have had to spend without their camera bodies, it struck me as curious that I've heard nothing about Leica AG resetting the warranty clock on repaired/updated bodies.

Is this the case, or are they offering an extension? Or neither?

I've been waiting for the dust to settle before making my first M8 purchase so I'll likely (blatant optimism) not have to deal with the extended German vacation for my M8, but I am wondering what if anything, other than lens discounts, we late adopters might miss out on.

Not sure what you're waiting for because all cameras delivered after 1/1/07, or slightly before, have had all the updates already applied. In other words anyone that bought a M8 after 1/1/07, or even 12/15/06, has not had to send their cameras back to Germany for any updates like the one sold in November or early December.

That is not counting other problem that some people have had.

Thanks for your response.

I'm aware of the updated models shipping after 01/07, but there are still many posts in various forums about problems and failures resulting in returns.

I'm obviously not in a great hurry and I'm just waiting patiently for a "period of M8 tranquility" to pass before I test the waters myself. I've picked up the IR filters for most of my lenses already and have the SD memory required in use in other bodies so the M8, spare battery and grip are all I've left to go.

The question wasn't meant as a derogatory comment on the 8, it was a simple inquiry as to whether anyone's gotten wind of any additional warranty period being offered in cases where individuals have gone a month or two without a body that they dropped $5k on.

I also wonder if a paid warranty extension ala 3 --> 5 Passport is likely to be offered. I think a great deal of Leica's customer service from my experiences with them and this would be another area that would put them head and shoulders over many other manufacturers. Their 2 year warranty is already beyond the norm.
