For permanent (bolted) mounts yes, for removable there are few options; Novoflex, Rayquel, eBay etc.

I have the fotodiox. Originally, I bought it with the focus confirmation chip and it burned out my 5d2 body twice (totaling about $1,400 in repairs, but under warranty, thank God). I took my thumb nail and literally ripped chip right off the adapter.

 

I am wondering if his confirmation chips are better. I am terrified to use one now, quite frankly.

 

I am going to convert my 400mm telyt.

 

I love this warning on their site... "can cause malfunction".... way, way, way, down at the bottom of their page. Should be changed to say "can burn out your mother board and others in your camera... but buy it anyway!"

I got one from a rip off artist on eBay from China. Have sent 10 emails asking how to get it functioning. He only emailed me back once I left some negative feedback.

 

Then he said he wanted to send me another one. I asked if it would work or could he program it to work prior to sending the second one. Then he said he would only send a second one if I changed my feedback to positive. Boy, they really think I am that stupid. I replied telling him I would gladly change my feedback to positive once the chip I have (if he would tell me how to program it) or the second would work on my 5D3. Have not heard from him since.

 

The chipped one I got says Pixco made it (L®-EOS) and the model # is AF-3. It's junk!

 

From your comment I should perhaps be glad it did not work.

 

Here is another one selling an adapter, called shamino123 on eBay.I asked if it will work on the 5D3 and this is the reply.

It will work on the 5D III. Just attach the adapter between the R lens and the camera, when it is in focus, the focus light in view finder will turn on to help you to focus.

A good friend recommended the Novaflex adapter because they fit and work properly.

Yes they're expensive but he had used lots of different ones over the years and the Novaflex was the best.

 

I wouldn't recommend any adapter with the chip.

 

Also... Cheaper adapters can trip a micro switch in the EOS bodies. The fix is to shorten the flange just enough so it doesn't activate the switch. If it does activate the switch you'll get an error message and the camera locks up. It's all good because if you press the shutter again it releases. The way to test is to release the adapter and rotate it a little bit and press the shutter button to see if the camera gives you the error code.

Yeah, I am more concerned about "heavy" lenses.... and adapters won't get you down the road, comfortably.

 

... also, on my 5d2, it completely burned out the camera, twice.

I use a Rayqual adapter, and though not cheap, it is close to perfect.

thanks for the fryghtening feedback on your adapter -- strangely the note only warns re/use with Eos film bodies...

 

I use two adapters R to EF, a Novoflex and one sold by Haoda Fu (about half the price of the former). The Novoflex is very solid, even still a bit stiff after now some seven years or so; I would trust it as much as the EF mount itself when it comes to big lenses. You must take it off the camera to change the lens.

 

The Haoda adapter has AF-confirm, fits less tight, but ok. You can re-tighten the fit by enlarging the slots in its mount. The chip has worked flawlessly with all my older film and digital Eos (the most recent is a 450D; I think a friend tried it successfully on a 5DII). This one allows to change lenses on the fly.

 

I don't know if either of these adaptrs is still made or sold in the same form, but can recommend both.

I can tell you all when it happens. When you are reviewing photos and switching between them, the camera will die and the screen will screw up.

i use a 400mmf2.8 non modular with a 2xapo almost evertime out ,,or my 350 f4.8 or 250f4 ,180 3.4 i usually only use heavy lenses,,check out my photos in wildlife section here ,i just posted a pick of a warbler .....paul
