Hi there, I'm a brand new owner of a modestly used M8 and although I've been doing photography for well over 20 years, this is my first Leica (I'm a Nikon pro).

I've lusted after a Leica for a long time, but I was put off by the prices. I just couldn't justify paying so much for something that was in essence going to be used for casual shooting rather than work. I wanted a rangefinder and I had been looking at the X-Pro1 and X-100/s, but every time I tried to use one in the field it just annoyed me.

So I started looking at the Leica system again. I realized that the M8 was ancient technology in digital terms an that I was going to spend double what an X-Pro1 would cost, but I decided to do it anyway.

I have to say the M8 has been a treat to use. It's everything I wanted the camera to be functionality wise. The simplicity is great. The Fujis have too much going on and it was distracting.

Anyway. The M8 has actually exceeded my expectations on a lot of fronts. I expected the high ISO to be terrible. It's not as bad as everyone says. I make a living shooting in near darkness and I took the Leica to a shoot and it stood up quite well to the newest generation Nikon cameras (provided I nailed the exposure).

I'm looking into an M9 soon, but for now I really like the M8. The crop factor doesn't bother. 1.33X really isn't that much. I don't see the Leica replacing my Nikons for most of my work, but I have been integrating it into my work with great results.

Anyway...

I just dropped in to say hello. If you wanna see what I've been doing with the M8 look here:Leica M8 - a set on Flickr
