nik_nik9 Posted April 7, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) After a month of heavy use of the M in Cambodia and Myanmar, the expected brassing showed up - and exactly where I thought . Although the small grip is okay, I'm eagerly waiting for a Thumbs Up version for the M. Nik Welcome, dear visitor! marknorton Posted April 7, 2013 Share #3 Posted April 7, 2013 Wear on the strap lug as well. It's a pity Leica don't used the stainless steel inserts Nikon do. Is the black a paint finish? I thought it was black chrome and would wear like the original M8 going light along the edges and corners instead of brassing. Pleased I went for chrome but in the end, it's a tool so I too would be interested in your field experience.

algrove Posted April 7, 2013 Share #5 Posted April 7, 2013 I believe its the Hefe from the Weitzen bier coming out in the SE Asian tropics. Mine looks new after 5 weeks, but I am in a sub-tropical area which has been quite cold this year and get plenty of Hefe here. That is remarkable in how short a time brassing showed up. Has it occurred anywhere else like on the front near the "M"?

nik_nik9 Posted April 8, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted April 8, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Brassing aside, how do you feel about the M after a month's shooting in tropical conditions? Hi Chris The extremely hot (up to 40C, but it wasn't too humid) was no problem for the camera - rather for me . I was walking around in the tropical heat for up to 12 hours a day, never a problem with the camera. I'm looking forward to my business trip end of next week (Hongkong, China, Indonesia, Vietnam) where I will most likely get a chance to test the weather sealing in a more humid climate. My old Thumbs-Up from M9 would be perfect in size, but the new M shoe has a different form from the old one, so the Thumbs-Up doesn't sit tight and fixed anymore. He, he ... can count the beers on one hand I drunk those three weeks in Asia - still needed a steady hand for shooting I was not surprised to the early brassing, it's similar to M9 and M8. I've had the camera in my hands or hanging around my body literally all day long for three weeks, so brassing at this corner is quiet normal on a laquered body. Has it occurred anywhere else like on the front near the "M"? Skim the 'I love my MP' forum. People rhapsodize so much about the brassing of their cameras I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the black paint used on the M240 was a bit soft, just to facilitate brassing. Leica watches such things ya know. They have to. That said I'd love to have a chrome M with the really bumpy vulkanite. (M3 is chrome and it attracts a bit too much attention for my taste, but it sure is pretty.) Regards, s-a

rosuna Posted April 23, 2013 Share #16 Posted April 23, 2013 I like the black M but I will buy the silver model due to this brassing behaviour of the black paint finish.

Nik HI Nik Glad it went well - are you going to post some images? As for the brassing - I would imagine that the hot weather will have made it happen quicker - I have no sign of it on mine yet - and it has been used a lot. all the best
