rhysgill Posted April 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I bought my X1 new from a UK Leica dealer this time last year.. and it has been an excellent tool to use along side my trusty M6. The X1 has had very light use, and no abuse, but for the first time in ages I came to use the flash today and the thingy will just not be released out of the camera body. I've e mailed the dealer but suspect it will need to be returned home to the factory for repair. Any other users suffered the same problem? andybarton Posted April 1, 2013 Share #2 Posted April 1, 2013 On and off. It's one of the X1's "idiosyncrasies" A trip back to Germany will fix it. Mine needs to go.
rhysgill Posted April 2, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted April 2, 2013 Andy, many thanks for taking the time to respond to my camera problem. In the cold light of day this morning I had another look at the top plate around the pop up thingy ( technical term ) and it appeared fractionally distorted ! not a mark on or around the top plate so not accident damage, more akin to manufacture.. Anyway, I gently squeezed the top plate sides around the flash with thumb and forefinger and hey presto the flash popped up and now looks to do so without complaint. Saved a trip to Germany. I hope your X1 recovers after treatment.... regards, Dyfrig,
Lee Martin Posted April 2, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 2, 2013 You see quite a few X1's for sale on various sites, and quite a few have stated that there has been a fault with the flash, akin to what you have outlined. Clearly it was never tested enough during development, which is very poor considering the price. The X2 appears to have undergone quite a modification in this respect, suggesting acceptance that the X1 mechanism simply wasn't good enough. A shame for a company that prides itself on quality. rhysgill Posted April 2, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted April 2, 2013 Hi Lee, Perhaps a case of beauty over function by the design dept. I do enjoy using the camera though and as the use of the built in flash is the least important aspect of the camera for my needs I won't let its foibles deter me from enjoying it. As a companion tool in my camera bag lurks a M6 I bought new in 1996, used almost every week since then and has had one CLA by Mr Taylor a couple of years ago after which it felt like a new camera. Bullet proof construction but guess by the time they made the M6 the Leica engineers had sorted ' the bugs ' out of the M design ! Dare say the X generation will also evolve into trouble free beasts... Dyfrig
