MikeEvangelist Posted March 31, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm trying to recall the name of this unique safelight that we used in my high school darkroom back in '71 & '72. I remember it being very unusual for its extremely high light output, and the odd color of the illumination (sort of deep yellow/amber) Any oldsters here who can identify it? Welcome, dear visitor! pico Posted March 31, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 31, 2013 Sure. It is a sodium vapor safelight. I use a Thomas brand in my darkroom now, and have used them since the seventies, just as you experienced. Their only downside, which is minor, is warm-up time. MikeEvangelist Posted March 31, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted March 31, 2013 Thanks! It was driving me nuts trying to figure it out. (I had forgotten about the warm-up time thing; it comes back to me now.) Mike
Jeff S Posted April 1, 2013 Share #4 Posted April 1, 2013 Yep, I loved my Thomas Duplex Super Safelight, which served well in 4 darkrooms, spanning several decades. Just follow instructions here, and check to be sure filters are still doing their job. I replaced my set once. Jeff
