Louis I get all what you say and I see the white dot on the top right , but not a single thin red line even at x10 , I could see them very a little at the beginning but not anymore

don't worry I shall read the manual again to understand what is wrong

thank you for your help

Erick-

Glad you got it going after this quote. If the lines disappear I just hit the front upper button (#3 in manual) again to bring them back up. Just remember that the lines come and go VERY fast so one must focus ever so slowly to catch them when initially using the M in this way. Later it gets easier, at least for me.

As for the "horizon" setting, I cannot figure out how to keep in on the LCD or EVF after using it, once. The Sony RX1 keeps it on the LCD or EVF until you want it to disappear with highly visible (thick) red and then green indicators when all OK. This feature is nearly useless to me so far, but perhaps it is me.

I understand that this camera is a major step for Leica and I like using it as a RF a lot. It is just that if you want to "catch" up with what's out there, perhaps to a point some sizable FW changes should be contemplated. As the population of Leica users are often older it seems that thickening the "in focus" lines should be a consideration for the M. The manual (p 178) shows very thick lines, but on my camera I have yet to even come close to those thick lines which in the manual are 10-15 times thicker and much darker than what I see on my M.

Chris any comment on Horizon?

Also, do you think Leica will be changing the RED ISO number color as in bright sunlight it is nearly impossible to see. I understand Leica desire for red, but here it is no good. The old M9 white numbers on black were way better even in bright sunlight.

yes .... and its also very lens dependent as well.....

Yes I agree. I found focus peaking on the GXR to be good with long lenses and Ok on my CV 35 1.2 when wide open or down to f2. Anything wider than 35, my 28 asph for example, got more difficult

Nice not to feel alone

I agree it seems nearly useless

and what about the level ? can you get it in the viewer and LCD or does it keep always hidden in the menu ?

ARE YOU USING THE EVF ????? !!!!!

Focus peaking works VERY well with the EVF and is very easy to see, magnified and unmagnified. The Olympus version is cheapish and very worthwhile.....

On the LCD panel at the back of the camera it is a real struggle.....

.... also with the EVF and x10 mag it is hardly needed..... the image is very crisp, bright and easy to focus (even with my Telyt 400/5)

thanks

and the level can you get it in the viewer when shooting ?

Nope. The way it's currently implemented is level OR view. And it's buried in the menu.

I think it must have been designed for careful tripod shooting. But then many tripods have bubble levels nowadays... Therefore, the feature is currently rather useless IMO. Another point to consider for the next FW update.

I was quite surprised by the definition for the FP on the M. Having owned a NEX 5n I was expecting similar. Seeing the M's highlights was really quite hard. I guess after a while I'd get used to it but it lacked a certain oomph.

Horses for courses I guess. Like the OP I had a little trouble getting it up and running at first (read that section in the manual three times). I have never used a NEX or whatever other cameras have it out there and was a little confused as to what to look for in the first place (manual shows a black and white sketch)..

Now that I know how it works, I kind of like the subtlety, but something tells me I shouldn't borrow a NEX and see how they implemented it. I might be singing a different tune.
