StephenPatterson Posted March 15, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is anyone else not thrilled with the new ISO menu on the M (240)? Instead of the M9 method of having all the values in rows and columns in white it's now a single value in the normal size (smallish) font, but the number is displayed in dark red which against the dark black screen can be very hard to see in bright sunlight. I hope Leica take a look at this for the next firmware update.
Advertisement Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Hi StephenPatterson, Take a look here M (240) new ISO Menu. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rramesh Posted March 15, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 15, 2013 Does ISO show up in the viewfinder?
Ecar Posted March 15, 2013 Share #3 Posted March 15, 2013 Yes.
StephenPatterson Posted March 15, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted March 15, 2013 ISO value does display in Live View (LCD and EVF) but not in the viewfinder.
Ecar Posted March 15, 2013 Share #5 Posted March 15, 2013 You are right. It only shows in the optical VF in Auto ISO mode and Aperture priority before pressing the shutter.
chris_tribble Posted March 15, 2013 Share #6 Posted March 15, 2013 I raised this with Leica (and others agreed). I really hope that there will be a change or FW option with the next update. It seems such a shame when everything else is a model of clarity. All it needs is to change the text to white.
StephenPatterson Posted March 15, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted March 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would love if the manual ISO value would display and allow to be changed in the optical window when the ISO button was held in. This is the way the exposure compensation value is displayed and changed when the focus peaking button is held in.
theno23 Posted March 15, 2013 Share #8 Posted March 15, 2013 Yup, I preferred the way it was shown in the M9 too. - Steve
algrove Posted March 19, 2013 Share #9 Posted March 19, 2013 Give us a few months and this will be a non-issue.
StephenPatterson Posted March 20, 2013 Author Share #10 Posted March 20, 2013 Give us a few months and this will be a non-issue. How do you mean Lou? It will still be an issue for me if Leica does not address this in a firmware upgrade. I'm shooting today in bright sunshine and the red on black numbers are impossible to see. algrove Posted March 20, 2013 Share #11 Posted March 20, 2013 I meant the selection method. Of course the color is a pain in the ass, but you as a Beta tester should be happy to help Leica who could not have figured this out on their own where someone sitting in a laboratory thought the red looked "cool" since it's a continuation of the company color. At this point if on 200, I just count the clicks up the line, but how many clicks is 600? Are you using red frame lines? I happen to like the red in that case. I do not recall Jono or Chris talking about this point, ever. Unless I missed it.
StephenPatterson Posted March 20, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted March 20, 2013 I think both have mentioned that this point has been forwarded to Leica for (hopefully) a future firmware revision. As for me I have no desire to count clicks. Also not using red frame lines, but prefer the white. Tradition.
viramati Posted March 20, 2013 Share #13 Posted March 20, 2013 I have to say that i preferred the M9 way of doing it finding it very quick just to go up and down a column. I suppose that now that we have a greater range they may not have been able to fit it all on the 1 screen
01af Posted March 20, 2013 Share #14 Posted March 20, 2013 Having all values on one screen means you don't need to actually read the numbers ... which makes selecting the desired value much easier for those with (mild) hyperopia or presbyopia So I very much prefer the M9's way.
