rattey Posted March 12, 2013 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I am new to this forum and was wondering if any of you have personal experience of cleaning the large sensor on your S or S2? I am changing lenses quite often and a few marks have now developed on the sensor. Rather than send it to Leica I would like to do it myself. I have done this many times with 35mm full frame sensors (M9 / D3 etc) but never with a larger sensor. If you are to wet clean the sensor what swabs do you use and is there any particular technique you would recommend? Thanks, Peter.

albertknappmd Posted March 13, 2013 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2013 I have used Eclipse (not Eclipse E2) with #3 swabs to great effect. It is simple but you should practice after watching their video. Use a mirror and press firmly.. You may need a few passes (with new brushes). Do not douse the brush with to much fluid! Needless to say, ALWAYS first use a Air Blower such as the Giotto followed by the Arctic Butterfly. With proper technique and PATIENCE, this combination usually resolves the problem over 80% of the time IMHO... Albert :)
rattey Posted March 13, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted March 13, 2013 Hi Albert. Good advise. FYI I have just found out that Visible dust have produced a new swab for the S series camera. It is 30mm wide so will cover the sensor in one sweep (will help reduce smears). It is called a Ultra MXD-100 Green Vswab medium format DSLR (30-33mm) and has a factor x0.9. This is different from their recently released digital back swab which is 42mm wide. The web page is: VisibleDust. DSLR camera sensor cleaning. . I am trying to get some of them now but they don't seem to be available in the UK yet. I'll let you know if I can get some. Peter
