Should I try upgrading my firmware?

I purchased my M8 second-hand on Ebay, and have had no issues at all with it, other than some problems with cold weather freezups. I have no idea what version of firmware it is running, but I presume it is original or old at least. I've owned it since December 2008 and have done nothing with the firmware. My question, aside from how to dowload the new firmware (and I see there is a permanent post on this), is would it be wise for me to do so, or am I just asking for something to go wrong? If I am currently running on old version of firmware, can I jump to the newest available, or do I have to go through a succession of firmware downloads. Your advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Just some reassurance: If you follow the instructions on the Leica site which provides the firmware, and make absolutely sure your battery is fully charged, the process is very easy and need not be alarming. The first time I updated camera software (not on a Leica) I found it pretty scary. Ever since then I've realised that it's not a problem as long as you follow the instructions. I just don't know the answer to your query about successive software releases but somebody here is sure to help. Good luck!

The latest release incorporates all of the prior changes. I suggest you do it.

And it's easy to check the version you're running by looking at the menu setting, just below the format option.

You should also read the FAQ here in its entirety, as well as the manual, for lots of other tips.
