pauledell Posted February 22, 2013 Share #2 Posted February 22, 2013 George, I take it there's a restoration going on at Al's Place. Paul
thompsonkirk Posted February 23, 2013 Share #3 Posted February 23, 2013 Did you order the great big greasy burger, or one of the steaks? The slats are sunscreens, not a restoration. It wouldn't be Al the Wop's any more if they restored anything. Besides, the regulars and the bikers who enjoy the bar are beyond restoration. The whole town almost had to shut down, because of its antiquated wooden sewer system. The solution? It became a state park. Kirk (who first tasted Al's in the late '50s). gshay Posted February 23, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted February 23, 2013 Kirk, Been there many times, depending on how hungry ___their small steaks are huge! There being only two sizes. Ditto since the 50's, these were taken late 90's. M6, 50mm. My better half, had never seen it only heard, on the way, has her phone and to her surprise the fellow answered as usual, "Al the Wop's". She turned from the phone to tell me I was right. You see the outside pics taken that evening, made her wait outside while I `checked it out, again'. Then snapped a pic as she walked in, with a huge smile of joy and surprise. It is priceless, she will not allow me to post it. darn! It had that same old, same old about it. Bras hanging from the ceiling, drunks at the bar, pictures on the wall of former Governor Reagan and wife, with John Wayne's, et al. Wooden bench seats, and more food them most of us should eat. Gawd, it was great to be back. You should be careful with as camera in there are you know, ask permission FIRST! Then the bar-tender takes your $1 bill and folds it, with 2 quarters inside, and you throw it UP, for your 50 cents change back, Have Never seen it come back in all the visits there. I suspect they owe me about $500 plus dollars. I'll try to find the "inside" pictures showing that atmosphere that I hope all will appreciate?
