andyedward Posted February 16, 2013 Share #1 Posted February 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) This new Zeiss video (The new high-end SLR lens Distagon T* 1,4/55 | Camera Lens Blog) gives a very promising look at the forthcoming 55/1.4 slr lens. I gave up on my d3x as wide and standard F lenses fell below reasonable performance levels. The upcoming zeiss 55/1,4 would apparently address this issue, and hopefully be a worthy partner for the d800 sensor. My only apprehensions come from potential AF inaccuracy with a 36mp sensor, and the rather Large size of the 55/1,

chris_livsey Posted February 17, 2013 Share #2 Posted February 17, 2013 You must be hard to please, there are some Nikon primes and zooms with resolution higher than the sensor (D800) out there. LensRentals.com - D800 Lens Selection
honcho Posted February 17, 2013 Share #3 Posted February 17, 2013 A blanket statement that lenses 'fall short''reveals a certain lack of experience. The D3x is one of the best dslr's Nikon have ever produced with a good choice of suitable lenses. It is a photographer's camera specifically intended for photographers who can use it rather than blame it.
tobey bilek Posted June 20, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 20, 2013 Nikon are good, better than they used to be, but still not what I would call world class. Zeiss will address that issue as it will be like the new APO 50 Summicron. Perfect at F2. The problem is there is no way to focus the glass you are paying top dollar for. You may have to raise or lower the focus screen. The green dot can then be used to advantage. The dot works off the AF system which may or may not be accurate. The screen can be raised or lowered with the hex screw in lower corner of mirror box on pro Nikons. 1.5 mm hex key. Go slowly slowly slowly. Do not adjust the mirror stops. Consumer Nikons need shims added or subtracted. Pain to do. I do wish for a split image screen by Katz Eye. Have one in my D700, but the D3 is 100% view and requires a larger screen for which they do not have the tooling.
