graeme_clarke Posted February 12, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted February 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Help! My memory is not what it was! My DMR has the most recent update - v1.3 - and I no longer have records of older firmware updates. I cannot get the B setting to work, despite following the somewhat limited guidance in the DMR manual. I seem to recall that one of the firmware updates stopped it working but I'm not sure. Â Has the B setting gone forever. I'm going to S Africa to the Dabchick reserve north of Pretoria, at the end of next week, where I'm told the stars are big and bright so I'd like to get some circular star trail shots. Â In relation to lenses, I'm thinking of taking the 28-90, 180 f2.8 and 280 f4 with a 2X converter. I've got a +1 and +2 close up lens combo that fits the 28-90 so I'm thinking of leaving my 100 f2.8 and 21-35 at home to save weight. I expect to see antelope, zebra, giraffe, buffalo, rhino, from the back of a land rover with day trips planned to other reserves to see elephant and cheetah. There'll also be a variety of birds. Â So, your advice please? Â Thanks in advance, Â Graeme
Advertisement Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Hi graeme_clarke, Take a look here R9/DMR B (bulb) shutter setting and lenses query. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Wolfgang Esslinger Posted February 19, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted February 19, 2013 B is not working with DMR. Â Are you sure you don't want to take any wideangle for landscape or sky?
graeme_clarke Posted February 21, 2013 Author Share #3 Â Posted February 21, 2013 Thank you Wolfgang. Â Well, the trip is off, at least for the forseeable future. Last Friday I suffered a thrombosis in my right leg so following my doctor's advice its no flights or long drives for least 8 weeks or so. Looks like the only photo safaris I make over the next couple of months will be in my garden - Mmm! That could be an idea... Â Graeme

The R-8 and 9 manuals and brochures for example contain contradictory informations if not to say they were written and translated by uncompetent people who didn't care for the name and the future of the company. They had no respect for the clients, killed that wonderful camera and its whole line of products.  It went so far Leica almost went bancrupt. The last chance for the company was Mr Kauffman and a small group of dedicated people. I hope they will have the guts to restart the R-10.  Regards,  C Agie

I just checked on my old hardrive and found I have copies of the V1.1 and V1.2 firmwares if you wanted them.  Robert
graeme_clarke Posted March 22, 2013 Author Share #6 Â Posted March 22, 2013 Thanks for the information Robert - I can't remember either as I don't think I had need of the B setting in those early days before v1.3. I've got a feeling too that once 1.3 was installed there was no going back, but I may be wrong. Â Nevertheless, I think whenever I get the chance to shoot star trails (there's too much light pollution where I live) I'll try stacking a number of shots taken with the longest exposure the camera will make when set on aperture priority. Â So, all in all I'll leave v1.3 installed and enjoy using the DMR as long as it keeps going. Â Now, will an M do the job... Â Best wishes, Â Graeme
