peterv Posted March 25, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, Â something strange happened with my M8. Â Earlier today, after I took a few photo's I didn't turn off the camera. Sometimes I forget, that is why it is set to auto off; 2 minutes. Â Just now, six hours later I took the camera out of the bag, and it was very warm, apparently still 'on'. Â The battery was full this afternoon, and I only took 12 pictures. Â Now it's almost completely empty. Â I checked auto off again, and it was still set to 2 minutes. Â After inserting a new fresh battery, in A mode, it showed the 'underexposed triangle' blinking in front of the calculated time for about 30 seconds. Â After that everything went back to normal behaviour. Â Does anyone know what happened? Â I think maybe the powerswitch was perhaps slighty passed C, in between C and S. I think maybe it was in the 'twillight zone' and therefore did not shut down after 2 minutes..? Â Thanks, Â peter

peterv Posted March 25, 2007 Author Share #3  Posted March 25, 2007 maybe the shutter was being pressed  There's at least 5 cm of air above the shutter release button, when the camera is in it's bag.
LJL Posted March 25, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 25, 2007 Peter, I am sorry to hear of your recent incident. I have had a similar thing happen with my M8 very early on. From that point on, I was really deliberate about making sure it was turned off, regardless of the auto-off settings. I concur with you that there may be some gremlins in the entire power switch / battery area, and have expressed this a few times in various threads. My M8 was supposed to be returned from Solms/NJ this past Friday, but it did not arrive yet, so I have no way to check things. I had specifically asked Leica to adjust the power switch to be a bit tighter or to have more deliberat stops, as it always seemed loose and found its way between Off-S-C too often than I cared. I do think that if it is slightly shifted beyond any of the stops on the power switch, there are potential problems with power drain and maybe even screwing up the normal shutdown routines enough to create glitches related to that "sudden death" more than a few folks have reported. I have no concrete evidence to support my speculations on this, but having gone through a milder case of the warm camera, and the constant power switch movement, I am pretty sure there needs to be some adjustments made to prevent/overcome some of these problems.
