sanjind Posted February 5, 2013 Share #1 Posted February 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Several months ago, I sold my Canon 5d and all my L lenses. It's been a great camera, it treated me well, but it was becoming cumbersome having to carry all that equipment. I considered buying Leica X2, but just couldn't convince myself to spend $2300 for slightly improved X2. I hope that sometime in future, we'll see another X with somewhat faster lens. In the meantime, I got lucky and came across a brand new X1 for $1000. It was an offer I could not refuse I absolutely love this camera. It is a little giant. I think these words describe it best. I don't mind so much the somewhat slow focusing. I'm mostly shooting landscapes, people and sometimes street. I wanted to get an electronic finder, but there seems to be no info on compatibility between X1 and Leica electronic finder. Is the new Leica electronic viewfinder going to work on X1 or is it meant for X2 exclusively? Is there any other electronic viewfinder that could function with Leica X1? My last question would be to find out if an electronic viewfinder allows you to see the focus? I know optical does not. Thank you sincerely for any info on this. Advertisement Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Hi sanjind, Take a look here Leica X1 and Electronic viewfinder. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bazwell Posted February 5, 2013 Share #2 Posted February 5, 2013 The X1 does not work with the electronic viewfinder. There is no port to attach it to. If you need an EVF the only option is to upgrade to an X2.
wda Posted February 5, 2013 Share #3 Posted February 5, 2013 sanjind, Welcome to the forum! Since you cannot use an EVF with the X1, why not consider the excellent Leica OVF? It would be ideal for your landscapes and only becomes less reliable in the closest ranges when I resort to using the LCD. I wish you much happiness and success with your compact precision Leica X1. I bought mine when it was first released and I still use regularly today.
sanjind Posted February 5, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted February 5, 2013 Thank you everybody, I should have done some more research before asking my question I guess Yes, it'd be nice to have an EVF on the X1, but I guess I can live without it too. I'm probably going to get Voigtlander viewfinder, it is $100 less than Leica's, and I've read some very positive reviews about it. Anyways, I'm really glad I made the switch and purchased this little Leica. I love it more and more day after day
Mgauss Posted February 6, 2013 Share #5 Posted February 6, 2013 Leica's viewfinder is very strict. If you don't have your eye perfectly centered it blurs the image on purpose. But less than 10% of the viewfinder works, 90% is blurred. In contrast, 90% of the Voigtlander is in focus and only 10% is blurred. I just lost $ 100 buying and selling the Leica viewfinder and I couldn't be happier with the Voigtlander. sanjind, Welcome to the forum! wda Posted February 6, 2013 Share #6 Posted February 6, 2013 I have no such trouble with my Leica OVF. But I do wear spectacles and framing is excellent.
