HemingwayJones Posted January 28, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted January 28, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) It's perhaps not the best camera for Bokeh enthusiasts, nevertheless while walking through Boston Common and Beacon Hill I was able to shoot some amazing shots with the lens wide open. This effect gave me some tasty Bokeh. Â I was wondering how your experience was with it? Tips for set up etc. beside cranking the lens wide open. Â I used the single focal point in the center, for instance, then recomposed. Â Thanks.

giulio74 Posted January 29, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted January 29, 2013 I have this camera from few days but my first impression are the same, out of the box I started to work with it like you do: focus in center then recompose.

Cheekyguille Posted January 29, 2013 Share #4  Posted January 29, 2013 For a point and shoot the DOF blur is nice, almost unexpected. Thought that the bigger sensor may push this out a bit more, but was quickly reminded that this is a 2.8 lens. Pleasant results, tho cams with faster lens will be better suited.  Here's a recent example of a man with a very well worn New Testament Welcome, dear visitor! HemingwayJones Posted January 29, 2013 Author Share #5 Â Posted January 29, 2013 Very nice pic and excellent Bokeh! Â Did you shoot it in B&W or B&W high contrast? Or did you convert after the fact? Whatever you did it looks great. Â I've noticed that on my pics there is very little fringing. That is a credit to this lens.
Cheekyguille Posted January 29, 2013 Share #6 Â Posted January 29, 2013 Thanks HJ. Â I shoot JPEG + DNG, and on B&W normal. The B&W setting is mostly so I can get immediate feedback with my output in mind. In workflow I always start with the DNG file, then convert to B&W in CS5. Â Lots of possibilities with the X2, just got my EVF and look forward to shoot waist level, see if that way I can get closer to subject. Â Cheers

I hope that you're happy with the results.  First impressions are very good, I really have a good feeling with this camera. I taken in hands it for the first time past saturday, I left the box in my car and immediately started to take pics in the street. I really enjoyed it! I'm thinking about taking that step. I could see how great it would be for street photography. That is a really nice quality B&W. Great work.

HemingwayJones Posted January 31, 2013 Author Share #11 Â Posted January 31, 2013 EBruner, very nice, very photojournalistic, if you will. What is going on in that cat's mind? The background is elegantly blurred, but not into oblivion. It's a very nice balance and very well done, if you don;'t mind my saying.
