nobbylon Posted January 25, 2013 Share #21 Â Posted January 25, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just bought my second SL, this time an early black paint version. Having developed a central vision problem I started to look for the very best viewfinder slr to suit me. I've had every Nikon from F through to F5 (still have the F5) I have an FM2n and an F2 with DP 1 and DP11 finders, a Pentax K2 with split screen finder and have had in the past a long list including OM's, R8, SL2, Contax and Canons. I can definitively say that of all the different cameras the most clear and easiest to focus is the SL closely followed by the SL2 due to the split screen. I sold all but one F2 as I just couldn't focus with them, same with the F3's I had. I got the FM2 a couple of weeks ago (second offence) and whilst it is possible to focus it is difficult. The Pentax is nicer than the Nikons and better than the MX I tried along with spotmatics. The R8 from memory was a nice finder that seemed to pop in and out of focus but still not as nice as the SL. I've tried my R lenses on Nikon both film and digital but found it annoying after a while so switched them all back. I understand you have bought an R9 however for 100 ish pounds you can pick up a usable SL and be amazed when you look through it. Plenty of scare stories about de silvering prisms but there are loads around so it's easy to find good ones. I'm actually going to sell my last F2 and the FM2 along with the Pentax and stick with my 2 SL's as my search is now over. For my A/F use there is nothing better than the F5. I really wish my R's were a/f! regards john
andyedward Posted January 28, 2013 Author Share #22 Â Posted January 28, 2013 I received my R9 through the post today! As I'd hoped, the viewfinder is bright and the subject pops into focus! I cant wait to spend some time shooting with it, and whilst my elmarit-r 100/2,8 is great for portraits, I'll also try some street shooting with it. Â Many thanks to everyone who shared their knowledge and experience on this thread

sc_john Posted February 3, 2013 Share #24 Â Posted February 3, 2013 Are the R8 and R9 VF's essentially the same? Thanks. Â John
