Michael Jones Posted March 24, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) A happy day! My dead M8 has finally been repaired in Solms and returned by Leica NJ alive and well, FedEx delivered my two 39mm IR filters (wow, what a difference!), my new glasses came in so I can focus the camera better, and we are leaving for the Netherlands on vacation in about 4 hours! Â I did have a question. In the instruction booklet with the filter it says: Â "Please ensure that your Leica M8 has a firmware version higher than 1.10 and select for this purpose the main menu item Lens Detection (5.1.1) and in the associated sub-menu select the variant On with UV/IR (see instr.p. 86)." Â Forgive me if this has been discussed already but the reference to "...higher than 1.10" threw me a curve. On a positive note, it seems that the firmware may be further along than we think. Â I upgraded to 1.092 (yes, white balance definitely better) and took some shots with my 28mm coded lens of a white sheet of paper to see if I could find a color cast in the corners. I really can't see any in this casual test under tungsten lighting. Â Regards, Â Michael

Shootist Posted March 24, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 24, 2007 Supposedly the filters will cause a cyan drift in the corners when used on wide angle lenses. This is because of the angle the light hits the filter and then the sensor on wide angle lenses. Yes Leica is working on 1.10 and seems to be planning future releases with other features.
