elmar3 Posted January 16, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I find no fringing with the 15mm Heliar with the M9 software version 1.176. I manually selected the lens and used the 16mm option for the 16-18-21 ASPH. Great lens, super sharp and very usable on the M9 without having to worry about correcting the supposed red fringing in the frame corners.
Advertisement Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Hi elmar3, Take a look here No fringing with 15mm Heliar. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted January 16, 2013 Share #2 Posted January 16, 2013 Welcome, elmar3, and congratulation to your find. With my M9-camera the 21mm-setting leads to better results with the 15mm-HELIAR . But the 12mm HELIAR behaves MUCH better now, there is hardly any fringing left with this lens these days. Hope it stays this way,. best GEORG
elmar3 Posted January 16, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted January 16, 2013 GEORG, thanks for the recommendation. I will try the 21mm selection and compare results.
trylab Posted January 17, 2013 Share #4 Posted January 17, 2013 At Lens Detection - Auto - my M9P (ver.1.196) detects 21 f.2.8 ASPH as primary lens. But my new 15 Heliar M is certainly best at manually selected 21 f.2.8 (11134). Try the lens indoors in a low light situation and you will see the difference in all settings, at least I do... VisualLifeLine Posted January 17, 2013 Share #5 Posted January 17, 2013 Would you recommend the 15mm Heliar on an M9 for landscape and action shots or should I get an Elmarit 21 2.8? A WATE unfortunately isn't affordable for me.... Best regards, VisualLifeLine
01af Posted January 17, 2013 Share #6 Posted January 17, 2013 I will try the 21 mm selection and compare results. Do not use the 21 mm WATE setting! First, that's no different from the 16 mm WATE setting, and second, it's a bad choice for a prime superwide anyway (because the WATE's internal design is very different from any other super-wide-angle lens). Better try using the settings for the Elmarit-M 21 mm and the Elmarit-M 21 mm Asph.
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted January 17, 2013 Share #7 Posted January 17, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Welcome to the forum, VisualLifeLine! With quite a question. 15mm can be pretty wide/ too wide sometimes for landscapes, but of course, it is a very intersting option in the hands of good photographer. Even 21mm will be too wide very often. If I would have to decide between the two, it would be the 21mm-thing But you should do some experiments before, about what comes close to your favourite angles of view. Don´t forget to check the 90- and 135mm-option for landscapes. These can do much more for an attractive landscapeshot than superwides. best GEORG

I owned a Zeiss Distagon 21 2.8 and sold it to finance a M9. I was actaully very happy with this focal length for my needs. I just thought maybe the15mm Heliar is a cheaper option, but it doesn't seem so....
