flyalf Posted January 12, 2013 Share #21 Posted January 12, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a very interesting solution as a focus visual aid, BUT it doesnt matter as long as a focus-by-wire solution is used for the actual focusing. So close, but still totally useless :-(
Advertisement Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Hi flyalf, Take a look here Fujifilm’s New X100S With Digital Split Image Focus. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mjh Posted January 12, 2013 Share #22 Posted January 12, 2013 This is a very interesting solution as a focus visual aid, BUT it doesnt matter as long as a focus-by-wire solution is used for the actual focusing. This applies to the X100s which has a fixed lens with (improved, according to people who have tried it) by-wire focusing. No doubt the successor of the X-Pro1 will also support phase-detection and a split-image view, and it would allow for changing lenses. If you used a Leica lens it would focus just the same as it would on a true Leica. The split-image technology doesn’t care about how you focus the lens, it merely shows you the result. While the real-life performance is something we still don’t know about, the main problem with the split-image indicator might turn out to be that it depends on phase-detection and phase-detection on the image sensor is still lacking the sensitivity of a dedicated phase-detection AF sensor. We will have to wait and see.
Tonki-M Posted January 12, 2013 Share #23 Posted January 12, 2013 It's only a matter of time before the M viewfinder works in this electronic way. When that happens, everyone on this forum will be hailing it as a marvel of modern technology. EVF of DSLR's through the lens is already achieved by Sony, Olympus, and FujiFilm...yet, i have absolutely no love for it so far. having the option to attach EVF is already available anyhow, why replace a good thing.
