D-lux 6. Monochrome

Trying to decide on a digital Leica. Does the D-Lux 6 have a mode to take monochrome or black and white photos? I know it can be done in Photoshop and probably with better results, but would also like the option to select that mode in the camera. Thanks for any help.

Thanks KhakiMan,

That will help me in my decision. I do a lot of processing in Photoshop CS 5 Extended, and know that using it on color shots is a good way to go, but just like having the in-camera option.

Thanks Again,

Unkei

Hi Unkei!

The D-Lux 6 has a mode called Creative Control, which is accessible through COL on the selector dial on the top panel. This option is one of several that are not mentioned in the D-Lux 6 Technical Data sheets on the Leica site, or described in the colour brochure about this camera.

Creative Control enables you to apply special effects to change the appearance of the image. It includes Dynamic Monochrome as one effect, which, at default settings yields a fairly high contrast black + white image. The brightness, depth of field and contrast of images can be adjusted prior to capture.

The complete instruction manual for the D-Lux 6 (which can be downloaded from the web) provides a lot more information about Creative Control and how to use it.

Cheers,

Oops, omitted to add that:

. Monochrome is one of the six preset Photo Style options that can be chosen in the Rec menu for P, A(perture preference), S, M etc modes, and

. B&W is one of the four Color Mode options when the A (= Snapshot, i.e. automatic p+s) mode is selected.

Hope this helps!
