Lens choice for M9 - help needed

Post #21:

Yes it seems insane. But it happens. More and more. Why would you spend a fortune on a digital camera that only shoots B&W? It just happens though. The MM sells like mad. Because people do not want to be bothered anymore by too many options and are willing to pay a higher price for that, higher than what seems reasonable. Creativity sometimes needs restrictions.

I agree with James that you should at least start with one Leica lens.

I tend more towards wides, but I rather foolishly thought I'd stick with one lens :o, so I bought a 35 Summicron as my first lens (now gone). I then added a 75 Summicron. This seemed a good two lens combo, but I have found that I prefer the slightly wider combination of 28 & 50. That lets me add a 21 and/or a 90 as I require.

So, one lens, go for a 35 Summicron (it's a good lens) or the current 35 Summilux ASPH (FLE) (expensive, hard to get, but fantastic); two lenses, I would wholeheartedly recommend the 28 Summicron (I got mine secondhand for a reasonable price) and the 50 Summilux ASPH (a fantastic lens at a reasonable price, for Leica).

Cheers, and welcome to the club!

Many recommendations... must be very confusing for you :-)

I would opt for the 35mm Summicron pre-asph. I just got the 4th version for 1000EUR coming from a 50mm Zeiss which I shot exclusively for several months. I love the classic rendering and look of this lens. It's sharp enough.

It's very small and makes an excellent travel/street lens. In my humble and budget limited opinion; it's the perfect combo.
