sacramento Posted January 4, 2013 Share #1  Posted January 4, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Would like to see more pictures and info about M9 and older Leica lenses. Although many people can afford the latest and the best, I'm not one of them. I have about 13 older Leica lenses all of which I've used, including on the visoflex. The beauty of the earlier lenses is that most used a 39 mm filter so only a few colour filters for B&W are needed. The lenses were also exceptionally well made and were/are a joy to handle. For instance, the 50/2 Collapsable Summicron with orange filter takes fantastic black and white images. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Hi sacramento, Take a look here M9 and older Leica lenses. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Marten Root Posted January 4, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted January 4, 2013 Agreed upon! Even though I am the lucky owner of some new design lenses... the combination of my 'old' (1966) 50/2.0 non collapsible summicron with my m9p gives great results in both color and b/w. Sometimes I even feel it's overkill when watching a picture shot with a modern asph or APO lens on screen. Theoretically there should be 'more' there in terms of lines per inch and contrast but you loose something as well! Hard to say what...
Jaybob Posted January 4, 2013 Share #3  Posted January 4, 2013 Here's 2 good places to start.  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/263929-old-lenses-monochrom-post-examples-here.html  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/253049-view-through-older-glass.html   There's also a "search" function to look for topics that may have already been covered or started in the forum. hhmrogers Posted January 4, 2013 Share #4  Posted January 4, 2013 Would like to see more pictures and info about M9 and older Leica lenses...........................  Here are a couple taken a few weeks ago using a 1960 Elmar 135mm lens on an M-E. I've also been trying an Elmar 90mm also dated 1960 but I don't have a good enough example yet to post. My first impression is that it's not as good as the 135mm.  The first picture is of a Patas Monkey in Singapore Zoo (Patas Monkeys come fro Africa). The second picture is a view from the Singapore Flyer, a giant wheel bigger than the London Eye; photographing though window glass is unavoidable as the capsules are fully enclosed. Neither image has been cropped but the second image has been corrected for verticals and vertical perspective at the edit stage. Welcome, dear visitor! Ecar Posted January 4, 2013 Share #5  Posted January 4, 2013 Perhaps it would be more useful to add those pictures to this thread:  http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m-lenses/253049-view-through-older-glass.html  so that all pictures taken with older lenses can be found in the same place?
