PennineT Posted January 2, 2013 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) hello, my first post:o Leica M8 no: 3195268 with 35mm f2 Summicron no:3505698, supposedly in excellent condition with 7000 actuations. Sale price is £2000 I am very new to Leica digital, but not the old screw threads and other digital cameras, Canon 5D, Lumix G series etc. What do I need to look for when I view the camera, the lens is not a problem for me to assess but the M8 is. Is this a problematic production no? Also; what do you think of the price. PennineT

LCD (read the problem about the "coffee stain"), but this could be not a problem, but a big "+", cause Leica can not fix it for now and the only one thing, that the company can do - is to offer you a NEW M9 or M9-P (M-E) with huge discount or even for free 2. Blue line of dead pixels with shots on high ISO (starts from 640). Make a few underexposure shots on ISO 640, 1250 and 2500 and check deeply the images 3. Ragefinder. Try to focus on your M8 and look with all you attention on center ragefinder square, when the image is in focus - you need to see one clear object, that you trying to focus in, without any vertical (especially vertical) or horizontal furcation. Leica's ragefinder - is a very sensitive thing and could be easily damaged with a simple drop of the camera on the flour or a seamy-strong hit. Also check, how the camera can focus on infinity - try to focus on the object, that is around 1 kilometer far from you. About the price: If the camera have 7000 actuation, and both camera and lens in excellent condition and a full set - it's a pretty good deal. According to the serial number, Summicron is a pre-ASPH model and it's a very good lens, with a nice FL for the beginning. If everything gonna be ok with the camera and lens after you checking and you have that 2000 - it's gonna be a good decision to buy that set, Wish you a good luck! PennineT Posted January 3, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted January 3, 2013 Well I bought the outfit today for the asking price. Both the 35mm f2 Summicron and the M8 appear to be in excellent ++ condition. Also they came with B+W filter, Leica half case, +1 diopter lens for the viewfinder, 3 batteries and the promise of 2 Leica UV cut filters to be posted on to me when they arrive from Leica HQ. The previous owner having only just registered the camera with Leica. I have taken a few test shots and all looks well so far. The only thing that I have found that is not as it should be is the SD card holder that does not have spring pressure and the card does not lock in. I only noticed this when I got it back home. Does any one know of this spring failing? The card still reads OK, and I tried a different card in and this formatted correctly. I think that the bottom plate keeps the card in the place against the electrical pickups. When I get a chance I will take some more test shots. You made a right decision and will definitely enjoy you new stuff. I never herd about this "spring issue", but as long as memory card work - it ok)

Ahmed ghazzawi Posted January 10, 2013 Share #9 Posted January 10, 2013 you got yourself a great camera , i got mine with 3000 us dollars with 21mm voitlander skopar . i have a mk3 that i didnt touch since i got the leica , there is magic in the photos , i dont care about the bad iso performance as i told myself that i will only shoot at iso 160 , so i am using the camera for bright daylight photography and i am blown away with the results . its the best camera if you want to have the 35mm classic look . there is attitude in the leica photo that you wont see on any camera . the M8 is a camera without features , and that is what needed in this crazy technology race that we are seeing these days . the M8 makes you focus on photography , simple photography . simplicity in perfection . Enjoy your M8;)
