The SB-80DX and SB-800 have hotshoe voltage below 6 V. according to this site:

They shouldn't do any damage to the M8. I have used both on my M8 - though not much - without any problem. The A mode is really very good, even bounced.

FWIW my Leica dealer (Just down the road in France) says there is a new Leica flash gun due in a month or two and he is not ordering any more of the SF-24s for stock. Any one else heard anything ?

Good news IF this rumored flash has a tilting head.

Swiveling would be nice too but this would only add to the bulk and cost of any new flash wearing a Leica badge. Give me a small tilting flash, certified for use with the M8, and I'll buy one.

I came upon this site while researching voltages on flash units. I was looking to see if the Nikon SB28Dx would work on the M8 since I have one that I rarely use since using CLS with the 3 SB-800's I have & the D2x.I tried it on the M8 & no problem.I also used the SB-800 in A mode(as I did in the 28Dx) & again no problems.
