tjphoto Posted March 20, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) This really burns me. Why wouldn't they make the m8 compatible with the latest 4gb,8gb fast cards? I don't understand, it's a professional camera right? My 1dsmkII which was released about three years ago works with them perfectly well. What is the deal?
Advertisement Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Hi tjphoto, Take a look here Why no SDHC ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mike prevette Posted March 20, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Even more inexcusable is that they are partners with panasonic who spearheaded the devolopment the format. Â _mike
albertknappmd Posted March 20, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 20, 2007 I believe that it is coming in the next update.......
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 20, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Actually the problem is the technology of SDHC is not set in concrete and leica pulled back from using it at this time because the standard has changed. Really this is outside leica's walls and there waiting for the new standard for it and that there is something else out that maybe better than SDHC. I'm trying to get more info on this now and hopefully get some answers soon. But ideally leica wants the latest standard available before they commit to it. i am hoping 1.10 will have this in the new firmware.
Sailor Ted Posted March 20, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Most likely when Leica first started developing the M8 this format was but a pipe dream and the other formidable tasks involved with making a DRF capable of industry leading image quality took precedence. Leica seems to have focused on IQ and ergonomics first with further refinement to come like SDHC.
tjphoto Posted March 20, 2007 Author Share #6 Â Posted March 20, 2007 OK, then why does my four year old canon use them?
Guest guy_mancuso Posted March 20, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tim probably because when leica was building the M8 and working on firmware the SDHC standard was changing at the time and leica did notwant to pull the trigger on it. I can certainly try and get a answer if you would like but that was one thing we talked about at PMA. That the whole standard has been in flux.I think there some info on this on the web on what the commission is doing on this, i am not sure of all there facts though also your talking CF cards too I believe SDHC is pretty new to SD cards
