Walker Posted March 20, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received my M8 in November, and I have had letters telling me the camera need to be serviced in Solms. However, I have had no such contact and wonder if I have fallen out of some kind of list. I tried mailing the M8 service dept., but they redirected the mail to the Norwegian importer (copy to me). I had already contacted them, but they knew nothing and asked me to contact Solms. I am no stranger to bureaucratic limbos, but still I wonder: have everyone else had their First gen. cameras serviced, or is there still a waiting list? Advertisement Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Hi Walker, Take a look here Any others out there with no recall?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ken_tanaka Posted March 20, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Did you register your camera's serial number with Leica, Willy?
glent Posted March 20, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Willy, Unfortunately, you have to take the initiative and send the camera to Leica. Do not wait for a recall request otherwise you could be waiting for a very long time. I waited a few months (bought my M8 in early November 2006) and still had not heard anything about my recall in February 2007. So I decided to contact Leica NJ. They suggested sending in to them and they would take care of the rest. I should get it back today (fingers crossed). Turnaround time was about 4-5 weeks. ho_co Posted March 20, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Willy-- I think most folks in Europe have received their recall notices, judging from this forum; but I think it's handled by the importer. That's probably why Solms sent a copy of their response to the Norwegian distributor. Â My guess is that they haven't launched a recall campaign as some distributors have, and that you should either: a) call the distributor and ask them how to procede; or send the camera directly to Solms yourself. Â (It's the same in the US, as you can see from other posts here.) Â --HC
Walker Posted March 20, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted March 20, 2007 Thank you all, suspicions confirmed. I'll have a chat with the importer. Â Ken: yes, I registered as soon as this service was available. I also have received offer for discounted lens, and even a message that IR-filters are on their way. They positively know about my existence. I suppose they are buried in work. Â Here in Norway there is still a backorder of ca. 20 cameras, so they evidently have not catched up demand as yet. Also, there have been very few reports of any problems, except for the well known banding and magenta issues. Actually, there are very positive sentiments regarding the lack of problems in such a new and complex item. Good news for those having concerns about Leica quality!
