StS Posted November 24, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is Gli, who officially lives in the Haghia Sophia or Ayasofya (obviously the second picture). She became a celebrity in Istanbul, after she was caressed by Barack Obama. Haghia Sophia, by Isidorus of Miletus and Anthemeus of Tralles, 532-537 (no digit missing ). They were pretty good in the late antiquity to erect a building, which would be unsurpassed for a millenium, in just five years. I guess we couldn't even finish the required paperwork in this time... Just trying to get away with posting a picture of a cat under “architecture”... Thank you for your interest Stefan

pauledell Posted November 25, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2012 Stefan, Gli the cat does belong in this post since she is the guardian of the palace. Great shots and fine narrative. Paul
StS Posted November 26, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted November 26, 2012 Thank you for your encouragement, Paul, euston, gshay, sydkugelmass and turner. Sometimes I wonder, how many stories such old building have seen. The Hagia Sophia was a church for almost one thousand years, became a mosque in 1453 and is a museum since 1935. It has survived earthquakes, wars and revolts (the preceding building was destroyed during a revolt). Stefan
