iedei Posted November 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) and i have to admit i was sort of blown away by it. I was at Adorama, and was looking at some lenses for my M5, when a guy with an X-Pro 1 showed up.....and was raving about the camera. I asked him about it and he handed over it to me to try. I had never looked through an optical viewfinder with so much going on (digital lines, info, etc) which looked pretty cool already...but then he showed me to click the switch on the front and it went into LCD mode and all electronic! sort of mindblowing. I only shot a couple of photos with it.....but i have to say that the in-viewfinder preview of the photo was pretty cool....as well as all the info and grid inside it. The camera itself (X-Pro 1) really didn't feel all that great in terms of build and materials...actually it felt pretty cheap for a $2k camera...but i think i'm just spoiled by Leica build quality...which i shouldn't expect. I generally welcome new technology---however, I am often bothered by the complexity that cameras are acquiring and as I saw on the Fuji. That being said....it's good to see progress and new ideas coming out. Pretty interesting experience either way. I can definitely see somebody loving all of that tech....it feels new and of the moment.
Advertisement Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Hi iedei, Take a look here tried a 'hybrid' viewfinder for the 1st time today.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
archi4 Posted November 23, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 23, 2012 You can also turn all the info off or customize it and get a nice uncluttered view. I use one next to my M9 because of the excellent high iso performance. The lenses are truly excellent.

The lenses are truly excellent. I just bought a fuji x e1 which i will use next to my beloved m8 and i must say that the image quality with the kit zoom (18-55, f2.8-4) and the high iso quality are amazing. The jpgs out of the cam are fantastic. It´s really big fun to shoot with the x e1. Dirk
}{B Posted November 23, 2012 Share #4 Posted November 23, 2012 The Fuji X100 has the same hybrid viewfinder. The optical finder is very bright and without distortion. Switch to the electronic finder and the finder becomes darker with significant 'drag' when objects move within the frame. However using the electronic viewfinder does overcome any framing problems caused by parallax. A very useful feature of the X100 is the abilty to set both the aperture ring and the ISO setting to auto and then to set a shutter speed. The camera will then maintain that speed by varying both the aperture and/or the ISO. A maximum ISO speed can also be set if you feel noise may be a problem at higher settings. Having owned the X100 now for a couple of months I can recommend it but It hasn't made me want to abandon my Leica M film cameras.
JeTexas Posted November 28, 2012 Share #5 Posted November 28, 2012 I just started shooting with a Sony NEX-6. I had my doubts about the EVF, but it's actually as easy or easier to focus than my M8. The only thing I don't like is that it goes black when I take the photo.
