Most photographs of people who've fallen on hard times are taken from an eye-level vantage-point and literally look down on them. This is fairer and more humane point of view. As you know, I'm no devotee of the high contrast B+W style but the picture has a natural serenity about it, as well as a genuine sensitivity for the subject.
