kaethe Posted November 10, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a quick report to share about the Monochrom Akademie in San Francisco yesterday, from someone who has never attended a Leica seminar. It was absolutely fantastic! Our instructor was Justin Stailey, the M-System Product Specialist, with support from Tom Brichta, our area rep and Tyler Gee, from Fireside Cameras here in SF. Of course there was a table filled with MM bodies and a generous inventory of lenses to use. The lecture portion covered the capabilities of the MM, of course, but also the thought process that went into the design of the system, the use of LR4 and SE and comparisons to M9 b/w conversions. I do not feel qualified to comment on the technical aspects of the day, hopefully someone else from the class will add to this. Below are 4 images I shot, with and without a red filter, straight from the camera on our sunny afternoon here in SF. 50 1.4 ISO 320 35 Summicron v4 ISO 320 kaethe

kaethe Posted November 10, 2012 Author Share #2 Posted November 10, 2012 On the street shooting portion of the day I went inside Goorin Bros, a hatmaker shop, with a very shadowy interior. Oh, oh, I feel a drop in my savings account coming soon. kaethe 50mm 1.4, red filter, ISO 6400, pp LR4 and SEP (just a touch)

kaethe Posted November 11, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted November 11, 2012 Alain, Tom Thank you very much for your comments. The Monochrom is so easy to use, akin to popping in a roll of your favorite b.w film and taking off for a walk to see what you will see. No more quandary about b.w vs color for an image, as we all know each is a different mindset. The leaf images are nothing but leaves on an urban park sidewalk, (carefully framed to avoid the cigarette butts), but the MM elevates them. I put my order in for one, could not resist. kaethe

You have been warned Three months ago, I wrote: And oh, if you don't plan to buy an M Monochrom and attend the event anyway then you might possibly return with the buring desire to have one! So beware! It might become an expensive experience
