Sean, you are right of course—but a bayonet mount that is just a little bit relieved over the coding sensors would actually be codable, i.e. more permanently than with Sharpie pens. The question is, are Leica's company lawyers the man-eating kind? Are silver bullets effective?

 

It seems that if there exist copyright and patent lawyers more rabid than those in the U.S.A., then they exist in Germany ... And the fact is that really unreasonable attitudes on this matter do in fact hurt the employer company in the long run.

Here's a shot with the 40 1.4 Nokton on the R-D1. Sean calls the bokeh of this lens "caffeinated" I call it "nervous" (same idea really) . . . So yes, I also prefer it stopped down (see 2nd shot from M8)

The 'caffeinated' bokeh is not unlike that of the 3d version 35 Summicron, and in both cases the cause seems to be over-corrected spherical aberration. See those round highlight discs with the bright rims?

Hi Guy,

 

Thanks very much for that. My thinking goes like this:

 

1. Jury-rig a temporary mount to hold the 60 just in front of the 12.

2. Test for hard vignetting and cyan drift

3. Check in-camera correction for lens coded as WATE at 16 (doubt that it will match for cyan drift correction but should help vignetting)

 

then, possibly...

 

- John or someone else, builds an adapter to hold a 60 in front of the 12.

- Someone creates a Photoshop action to correct for cyan drift with the 12.

 

It's possible that an upcoming version of a RAW converter might be able to correct for cyan drift during conversion.

Sean I have a feeling and it is truly just a feeling C1 will have this in the raw converter version 4.0, there is nothing official said about it but it would be very smart of Phase to do this for the M8. With all the competition around for raw converters i can't call them enough on the carpet to say do this and get more customers from the M8 Now having said that someone with some software development savy can do this and it can be added as a plugin for C1. C1 version 4 will be plug in compatiable and 3rd party developers will be able to add into the program. Like a image management system and such , some smart person can work on the cyan drift part with sliders to control percentage , size and make set parameters for different lenses. Any software guys out there that want to make some money on third party development maybe wise to contact Phase on this. i wish i was this smart myself. LOL

There was a post from Stephen Gandy in the RFF forums noting that the 25p brings up the 24/35 frame lines on the M8.

CV is gradually moving its lenses over to M mount and the timing couldn't be worse for M8 owners. John's LT-M8 adapters make it fairly easy to durably hand-code LTM lenses, milling an M bayonet is more complicated. I suggest that people interested in the LTM CV lenses grab them while they can.

Yes, I am sorry about this trend; it will increase the price and reduce cross-platorm use. The new CV 25mm P Color Heliar is not only $75 more expensive (some increase in price due to the fact that it is now RF coupled, unlike the lens it replaces) but the new price does NOT include a separate viewfinder, as did the prior lens. I have a "back up" camera body Voigtlander Bessa R that is LTM, and I can use my LTM CV lenses on the Bessa as well as my Leica M6 and M8 with the LTM-to-M adapter rings. I was holding off buying the CV 75mm Color-Heliar but with this new information, I have purchased it (and with Sean Reid's wonderful recent articles on 75mm lenses on the M*).
