Guest malland Posted November 8, 2012 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sometimes you pay a penalty for being an early adopter. No problem with the M-Monochrom (I love it) or Lightroom 4 (it's great for M-Monochrom files), but there are problems using LR4 with the MacBook Pro Retina. I had read that there will be this Fall an LR4 version adapted for the Retina, but didn't know the problem until I ran into it when doing some heavy dodging. The trouble is that the exported JPG file that you can see here, looks different from the "FIT" (about 20%) view in the Develop module, in which the dodged areas are darker and which does not show the artifacts visible on the bottom left of the picture, where I did some heavy dodging by lifting the shadow with the Adjustment Brush. Also, the FIT view in the Library module (see top of the attached picture) looks different than the FIT view in the Develop module (bottom of attached picture). Also, the 100% view in the Develop module looks like the exported JPG and the view in the Library module. The upshot is that, when you dodge in a FIT or 25% view in the Develop module you don't see what you get. For the latter you have to go to a 100%, which is too large to work on effectively. So, I am stuck and cannot use LR4 conveniently to work on my M-Monochrom files on the Retina. My solution would be to develop the DNG files in Raw Photo Processor and then import the TIFF file to process in Aperture (which has been updated for the Retina). EDIT: I didn't mean to attach the picture in such a way that readers have to download it to their computers to see it; but I don't know how to attach it so that it would show up as a clickable image to be seen on the monitor. —Mitch/Paris Bangkok Hysteria (download link for book project) Untitled-red-6.pdf

Guest malland Posted November 10, 2012 Share #2 Posted November 10, 2012 I've just downloaded the new LR4.3 Release Candidate from Adobe Lab, a pre-final release, which includes support for Retina display. When I re-processed the picture with this version the artifacts no longer occurred; so the problem has been solved. —Mitch/Paris Bangkok Hysteria (download link for book project)
Guest malland Posted January 21, 2013 Share #3 Posted January 21, 2013 While LR4.3 is now fine with the Mac PowerBook Retina in the Develop Module, there is still a problem in the Slideshow Module. Some images shown in Slideshows don't have all the adjustments that have been applied. Also, there is the same problem in the image rendering in the Library Module, although that is not as important as the problem in Slideshow, since one doesn't evaluate images in detail in the Library Module. I am not sure what adjustment are not being rendered in the Library and Slideshows Modules. Has anyone else noticed this? —Mitch/Bangkok Bangkok Hysteria (download link for book project)
Guest malland Posted February 5, 2013 Share #4 Posted February 5, 2013 Has no one else been confronted by the problem identified in my post #3? It makes LR4 Slideshows virtually useless on the MPB Retina in its incomplete rendering of some photos. —Mitch/Chiang Mai Paris au rythme de Basquiat and Other Poems [book Project]

Hopefully will come in the next few months. Shooting with the Monochrom and using Aperture is just like in the old days with film... waiting forever to have them developed!!!! Gladd/sadly I am not having much time to shoot anyways...
Guest malland Posted February 22, 2013 Share #6 Posted February 22, 2013 Raf, if you don't mind a hybrid work flow you could develop the DNG files in Raw Photo Processor and export the TIFF (a very easy procedure) to be further processed in Aperture. The results will very similar to LR4. —Mitch/Paris Lanka Footsteps [M-Monochrom/Sri Lanka]
