Advertisement Posted October 30, 2012 Posted October 30, 2012 Hi dave.gt, Take a look here Tethering to an Ipad?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dave.gt Posted October 30, 2012 Author Share #2 Posted October 30, 2012 Well, from another forum, I was given a lot of information I would like to share here. It is indeed easy to tether to an Ipad with the Eye-fi card... dave.gt Posted October 31, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted October 31, 2012 Well? Does anyone even care about tethering? There is plenty of interest on other forums, why not here?
robert blu Posted October 31, 2012 Share #4 Posted October 31, 2012 Not in my immediate interest, but good to know it is possible, just in case. robert
dave.gt Posted October 31, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted October 31, 2012 Thanks again, Robert! It was not even a thought for me until recently when the Ipad mini came out. With a paid gig, it is important to check the images before leaving the photoshoot. Portraits, architectural and other images are easily reviewed on a large screen. Now I have identified numerous reasons for owning a tablet instead of just for entertainment. It will assist my workflow!
robert blu Posted October 31, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 31, 2012 I understand, but I don't own (yet?) an i.pad ! Maybe in future, but by now my computer budget (better, saving in order to have it available) is dedicated to the main computer I have at home. The old one has a few problems and I think it's time for something more modern. It seems me in december the new i.mac will arrive...no money for i.pad, i.phone or anything else robert PS: great photos with your M3
atanabe Posted October 31, 2012 Share #7 Posted October 31, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dave.gt, The EyeFi card does work for tethering to the iPad, laptop or iPhone. I have used it in my X1, M9 and S2 with no issues. Just remember that it is an 8 gb card and once it is filled you have to put another one in. You can send the dngs and jpgs with the Pro model, I prefer to just send the jpgs and manually load the dngs later to my laptop for processing and archive. I don't shoot thousands of images a day so this workflow is fine for me. Your mileage may vary . The only thing to point out is that if the camera powers off while downloading, the connection will drop, but will pick up again when the power goes back on. You may opt to extend the power settings on the camera or monitor the download process. This also shortens the battery life because of the WiFi power. The eye-fi card draws power from the camera battery. Be prepared with a spare battery or 2 if you plan on tethering
dave.gt Posted November 1, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted November 1, 2012 Well, look at my links...according to Terry, the Eye-fi works fine with the Ipad, and yes, it does take battery power...but the Ipad has plenty of power for a shoot. Batteries for the X1? Got plenty! I am not a hobbyist so I need them anyway. Now to wait on that Ipad mini. The really neat thing here is that the X camera can become part of a system for workflow. I have the flash system worked out, now I need to work on a slave and a portable setup for doing these on-location shoots.

Have you tried Photoshop Basic Express on the Ipad? I prefer to work on raw files through LR and Photoshop on the desktop computer but was wondering if the Express program works well enough. robert blu Posted November 1, 2012 Share #11 Posted November 1, 2012 ... now I need to work on a slave and a portable setup for doing these on-location shoots. Hi Dave, as slave with my x1 I use a small Metz 28 CS -2 (simple flash but complicated name ) you can see it here in post #3 the photo and read my comments. Ciao robert PS: I also have an old (but still good) SB26 from Nikon which works well as slave, bigger but more powerful, I prefer the small Metz

Leave the processing to the main computer and just send over the jpgs as the transfer will slow down when sending the raw dngs over wifi. Also, you can not profile the iPad like a regular monitor so processing them on the iPad in my opinion, is not worth the time. I use the iPad to mainly check for composition and focus - much better than zooming a small LCD.
