L Brooke Posted March 17, 2007 Share #1 Posted March 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) There seems to be a lack of discussion on this fourm concerning the V Lux 1. I started a yahoo group that will focus primarily on the mass market Leica camera. If you have one or have questions please join. leica-vlux1 : V-Lux1 I am a recreational photographer who while in univerisity dad always wanted his own R4, but could never afford it. A few months ago, when I was looking to enter into the digital SLR arena, I discovered the V Lux 1. It does everything I need and is a great primary camera for me. Awesome lens, great size and I could afford it. (I didn't tell my wife a duplicate panasonic was available for $300 less.) So now I have a Leica. Some day I hope to matriculate to a M8 but for now.... Much of what is discussed in the Leica Users fourm is beyond my needs so I hope to meet many other V Lux 1 users at the yahoo group. Cyrshot Posted March 18, 2007 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2007 Hi Brooke, I am glad to see an interest in the V-lux. I own one as well and truly enjoy the diversity of the camera. As stated by another member months ago, Leica has released some very fine cameras in these last few months, all of which are over shadowed from the M8. I will look into joining the forum, but hit me up for any discussion.
Douglas Folk Posted December 3, 2007 Share #3 Posted December 3, 2007 Could you provide any advice on optimum settings for OIS and autofocus on the V-Lux? I recently purchased one and was suprised to get some bad photos under what should have been ideal conditions. I was shooting a wildlife photo at max. zoom in full daylight. The subject was stationary, and in direct sun on grass with a dark background. The photos were blurry, as though OIS didn't kick in, or autofocus didn't react quickly enough. I didn't get a warning from the camera that the subject was not in focus. Any suggestions on how to avoid this problem in future?
alan Posted December 3, 2007 Share #4 Posted December 3, 2007 HI Douglas, When shooting at maximum zoom you should always try to use a tri-pod or a mono-pod. At that focal lenght the slightest movement is greatly exagerated. Good Luck, Alan
Cyrshot Posted December 4, 2007 Share #5 Posted December 4, 2007 Douglas, Do you have the feature for camera shake on? That can add to some more crisp pictures. For auto focus, some are faster than others. I think the H auto focus, is fairly fast Vs. the multi focul areas setting which takes longer for the camera to lock on. Make sure as well that the focus locks on and turns green, if not the camera has yet to find its focus. As stated by another, any tripod will help. Shooting at 420mm any movement can easy add to blurr.

Hi Matthew I recently joined the Yahoo V Lux user group..and even posted a couple of pictures..but the only response/messages I received was junk mail...the latest inviting me to join a biker group. So regretfully I've withdrawn from the Group and will stay with the Leica Forum and DP Review's Leica Forum.
Guest jimmy pro Posted May 31, 2008 Share #7 Posted May 31, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) I tried one out that belonged to someone else. The long end of the zoom range is awesome, combined with the IS, but I wish it started out wider. The IQ isn't bad at low ISO's for a sub-APS-C chip but Panasonic has a way to go to get on par with there competitors at high ISO's. Then again so does the M8 and that costs way more. The dealbreaker for me on the VLux is the viewfinder. It's like useing a camcorder and I didn't like it. If I'm stuck useing the rear LCD at least I want something small enough to fit my pocket. But if they could put a reflex optical finder on the next generation I would maybe consider it for a trip cam.

Well, I'm sure that's got the designers at Leica/Pana swinging into action. You expect a 420mm (equiv) lens to fit into your pocket? Buy a Barbour jacket- it does. dhsimmonds Posted June 1, 2008 Share #9 Posted June 1, 2008 I don't have the V-Lux-1 but I have owned both a Panasonic FZ10 (4mpx)& FZ20 (5mpx)which are both fore runners of the V-Lux-1 so the latter has a pedigree of development. All have a similar Leica designed F2.8 35/420 zoom lens. I have used both of these cameras for club competition and exhibition work and they were superb. With a good interpolation software program both cameras produced excellent and very sharp 16 x12 prints. The attached image was taken with the FZ10 4 megapixel camera. Welcome, dear visitor!
