6-bit coding for the Zeiss 18mm f/4.0

Hi, I'm new to this forum but not to Leica, having used Leicas for mnay years.

I have a Zeiss 18mm f/4.0 ZM that I use with my M9-P. I had Don Goldberg add 6-bit coding to the lens but the camera will not automatically recognise the lens. I've had him add 6-bit coding to three other lenses (all Leica) and the camera recognises them every time.

The lens code I'm using for this lens is 110100, which I understand is the correct code for the Leica Super-Elmar-M 18mm f/3.8 ASPH. I repainted the slots to make sure there was enough paint, using Testors flat enamel in black and white. When this didn't work I used a black Sharpie on the black slots, and that didn't work either.

I'm wondering if anyone else has been able to code this lens successfuly for use on an M9? Perhaps I should try coding it as a pre-ASPH 21mm (code 000001)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Bob Woods

I am not sure if the mount can be modified or not - you may need a new one bringing up the 28/90 frame lines. I had the lens once and bought a new mount from Zeiss. As I recall, it was inexpensive at 25 Euros or something. You may also need to order a set of screws as these can become damaged when the mount is taken off.

The 4/18 is a stellar performer.
