Anyone else besides me actually using the X1/X2 professionally? For that matter is anyone else on this forum using the M3 professionally?

I am currently continuing to use the M3 (and R4) for black and white film images because I prefer the film look. I really prefer digital color images and have been using the X1 for most of this year and am delighted with the results as I explore the cameras capabilities and stretch my own envelope.;)

Like any exercise, stretching can take some effort and create a little pain but in the end, the final rewards are realized. I figure it will take another 3 years with the X1 and M3 combination to fully accomplish the bonding of these fine cameras.:)

i don't have an X1/X2...however i recently joined a scientific stock photography organization, in which there was a 'recommended' list of gear one can use to contribute.

in the list were lots of DSLRs, the Leica M series.....and to my surprise the X1 and X2. It was the only non-DSLR or non-M series listed and i was pleasantly surprised, so obviously there are people using it and/or aware of how good it is.

I would love to know which organization that is... it is good information to know. I happen to remember something about Getty approving the Leica X1/X2 cameras for publication...IIRC.:)

Flickriver is a good source for folks who would like to know about the quality of images produced by many with these cameras:

I have the X1 and have (to my surprise) never used it professionally...I cant sync it in the studio, and live view doesn't work well with studio flash lights, and lcd is too terrible to try and focus manually for location work...besides my 5d2 just works so well in all circumstances with so much better image quality that I don't really think I ever will....pity...the camera is just too slow to use professionally imo slow to show images on lcd, slow to scroll, slow everything...

O yes and I forgot to mention that my sensor is so full of dust it looks like someone had a go with a shot gun..!

Sorry. Studio work is not what I had in mind. I don't use a small pocket camera for studio work and never have. Why would I, or anyone?

The small form and simplicity of use is the strength of the X cameras and what we as professionals use. It is not wise to take any instrument and try to use it for something it is not intended. I can do macro but it is not the strength of the camera. I can use it with a digiscope but it may not be the best choice. I can use any number of cameras on the market but this is about the X cameras.

With all due respect, my question is for anyone using the camera professionally in any manner whether it be documentaries or street photography, not a question for why someone is not using the X cameras because other cameras are better.

The X1/X2 are fully capable of yielding professional quality results. Alamy is another agency which has approved their use for stock photography and several of my X1 photographs have been published through them, together with many pictures taken with my older and current Leica equipment. With the X1 I have learned to live with its idiosynchrasies and capitalise on the superb image quality. For my purposes I have not felt the need to upgrade my original model.

With all due respect, I only answered your question as you asked it, I couldn't read from your question that you actually had something else in mind..:) You mentioned the word 'professional' so I gave you my opinion as a 'professional photographer'...

But why wouldn't I want to use it in the studio, or for advertising etc etc?? Why shouldn't I use a tool other than what it was intended for, polaroids were not intended to be scratched on and peeled but some innovative photographer somewhere decided to use a tool they way he wanted to not just the way it was 'intended' (Lucas Samaras comes to mind) ..the image quality is perfectly satisfactory, its the user experience that lets me down, the same way it lets me down in the street or for portraits etc etc...if you have all the time in the world it would be ok but when I work professionally time is money and then the X1 just doesn't cut it for me personally..hence my comparison with the 5d2:)

Sure as a street and documentary tool its more than adequate provided I use 'zone focusing' and then its the most simple camera in the world to use, just point and shoot...I just don't try and use the af... then all the simplicity is gone and its actually rather very very complicated :) Of course you and anyone else may have a different user experience, but i can only speak for myself...

yes, I've used my X2 twice for a professional shoot & regular feature of mine published locally in Hong Kong over 2 1/2 pages & it looked really fine, once for the entire shoot. I'm tempted to use it more often except that I prefer a wider focal than 35mm for most of my work & favor the interchangeability of a digital M from wide to telephoto. Yes, I'd use it again.

Yes, I have used it already twice, while my M was in Solms. I was surprised how well it worked. My biggest fear was not being taken for full by the clients. But once they saw the images everybody was happy.

I've published several photos using an X2 -- and an M8. I use Canons for events when I need long lenses or the versatility of zooms, but always have the X2 with me.

Rescue this thread.. Could You, anyone of You, show me some pro works made by the X2?

I uploaded a few that I've published. I was somewhat hesitant to do so as they certainly don't represent a portfolio -- and aren't my best -- are just a few photos that have been published using the X2.

For some, the X2 excelled -- there is a photo with a police officer's arm over a cell door. Not a stunning photo but I was extremely restricted in what I could shoot (could not show any details of a cell, nor faces, no flash) and absolutely needed to be discrete. The X2 is small and is quieter than my Canons and M8s. I don't use it as much as I should but rarely go anywhere without it.
