Just wanted to introduce myself and thank everyone for all the useful information in this forum. Like all of you, I long awaited for the M8, but I was much more hesitant when it was finally released. After silently reading all your posts, I was finally convinced by many of you that the camera was worth it. I bought the M8 this morning and I am looking forward to the many great walks with it, as I have in the past with my M7. I must admit that the M7 has been taking more and more dust this past year, as I have been enjoying the my canon 5D, which i use with Canon and R lenses. But then again, this is quite a bulky camera to carry around and therefore did not nearly shoot outside as much as I wished...

My next step is to try to integrate the M8 in my professional workflow, which consists to shoot decorative and fine art. I have been shooting for collectors a dealers for a while, and actually just published my first book. I am currently working on another one. The 5D has prooved to be a great camera for this, and along with the macro-Elmarit-R 60mm for macro work, I have been getting very good results. I plan to get a visoflex/bellows/elmar 65mm and experiment a bit, and see how they compare with the previous.

Anyway, thanks again for answering all the possible questions I've had in the past few months, through all your posts. :p

Gilles--

Welcome to the forum! And congratulations on getting the M8!

It's amazing, isn't it, with all the grumbling about real problems, most M8 users still feel the camera is well worth keeping!

Thanks for telling us hello!

Thank you for the welcome HC and Guy. The camera is simply extraordinary; I am totally hooked! I have been doing some tabletop work today and I am floored by the results. I never expected it to perform so well with this type of work. I was actually anticipating keeping the 5D for this purpose and using the m8 for my personal enjoyment. So far the m8 is perfoming extremely well with tabletop/studio shooting, and if the macro performance with the visoflex is as good, I might consider letting the 5D go...

I have been using the Leica Digital Capture tethered to my mac, and used a cable release for the shutter. While I have been using Lightroom since the first beta release, I have been working with C1. I like the fact that once you make a shot, the image is directly viewable in C1. With lightroom, you have to import each time. This is a time saver as far as I am concerned, because I can really check to quality of my image right away.

Also a quick note on the white balance: while the automatic white balance is totally off in my studio (way too yellow), I am very satisfied with the manual setting and it is much easier to set up than with my canon.

My m8 is nearly 36hrs old, and it is still up and running. ;) So far so good; i noticed two glitches: the screen reviews DNG files in black and white when I shot BW JPG, and once the menu scrolled around the clock at 100mph without touching a thing...

I am a very happy man!

Gilles--

The menu quirk may be the same noted before in a different context: Some have said that when they reviewed images, the scrolling sometimes went thru several at a time. Perhaps this is the same thing, maybe slightly mis-set contacts.

Interesting about the BW review. One member has mentioned that he liked that feature on firmware 1.090, but that the newer version, 1.092 no longer let him review in B/W when he had the camera set as you do.

Again, kudos to you for the purchase. Do keep in touch here about glitches. Guy just delivered a list of problems to Solms and there'll probably be more requests for lists of anomalies.

Let's see--36 hours and running when you posted, now 38 hours--that's much better than some! :D
