Advertisement Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Hi tjphoto, Take a look here DNG Previews gone - Apple v. Adobe is getting tiresome. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
nryn Posted March 14, 2007 Share #22 Â Posted March 14, 2007 It makes sense that you would have to rehack Aperture per Eoin's instructions. Apple has just pushed a new version of that file and they have no way of reconciling hacks. Â You know, the lack of support for DNGs in Aperture bothers me like it bothers everyone else, but Leica's image properties are still an unknown quantity. A short time after 1.1 comes out we can start moaning about Apple's lack of support, but until then, what's the point? Â Quite frankly, if I were Apple, I wouldn't support the M8 until the images it provides level off. They are concerned with image quality and with consistency. Look at the September update to the RAW processing...they allow people to continue to use 1.0 processing. Â Yes, Lightroom handles the M8 DNGs, but I don't know many people happy with Lightroom's color on M8 files (myself included). If you are, then maybe you should be using that. Â Patience. mat_mcdermott Posted March 14, 2007 Author Share #23 Â Posted March 14, 2007 For me, this has nothing to do with Aperture. All I want is the preview icon back so I can visually scan my folders for the file I'm looking for. I'm quite content using Bridge/Photoshop for actual processing of my M8 files. I agree that patience is warranted on the issue of full Aperture support. I had what I wanted in 10.4.8, had no reason to suspect performance in this area would be reduced with 10.4.9 and am generally annoyed with Apple for the first time in my life--and I've been using Apple products since pre-Mac days. ustein Posted March 14, 2007 Share #24 Â Posted March 14, 2007 >I open a folder on my desktop and the files says dng and the thumbnail of the photo is there ..... Â Did you upgrade to 10.4.9 ? My previews of DNG are white. Â Uwe
LichMD Posted March 14, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted March 14, 2007 etherfarm, I don't disagree with you, and it only took me moment to realize that I had to re-hack the raw.plist file, but it is frustrating. People want consistency in their workflows and from their files. These workarounds are functional, but somewhat irritating.
paul_barker Posted March 15, 2007 Share #26  Posted March 15, 2007 For an interim preview fix you could try pic2icon:  http://www.download.com/Pic2Icon/3000-2256_4-8881968.html  Drag a folder over it and it will replace generic icons with thumbnails. Not sure if it shows the pic in column view as I'm still on 10.4.8.
sandymc Posted March 15, 2007 Share #27  Posted March 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) As regards Apple and DNG, the issue is that Apple has not implemented the full DNG spec, they have only implemented the pieces that they need to support specific cameras. Adobe's products, which have implemented the full spec since day one, will happily open all M8 files - even versions of ACR that substantially predate the M8 will do this. If Apple implemented the full DNG spec, there would be no M8 firmware question with respect to Aperture  Sandy

Only few thumbnails were randomly created and only the really small ones, still no small preview in the "column" view.
