Guest WPalank Posted September 10, 2012 Share #1 Posted September 10, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just wondering who in the Forum has decided on a Creative Cloud subscription: Adobe Creative Cloud | Adobe.com I was on the fence until I went to Photoshop World last week and spent some time with some Adobe experts on the Exhibition Hall Floor. Note: I have already bought the updates to LR4 and Photoshop CS6. The Good: - I locked in my first year for $29.99 per month. (possibly US pricing only). - announced by Jullieanne Kost, starting as of last week, one can build e-books or instructional videos using Adobe products inDesign etc., and put them for sale through the Apple Store as an App. Evidently the cost as a non-Creative Cloud Member would be $350 per product. With the CC membership you could upload thousands (figuratively) at no cost. All you need to do is sign-up as an App developer for $99 a year. I did it over the weekend and it was painless (minus the $99 charged through my Credit Card). - CC members will always get the latest versions of the products first. - I have always wanted to learn InDesign, (a $670) product, now it's part of my membership. - Due to the rumors of impending cameras to be announced next week, I thought I might want to learn Adobe Premiere Pro, $735, in fact I will be taking my first course this coming weekend on the software. -Once you have uploaded a book for sale, it's there to stay whether you continue your membership or not. Negatives: Who knows what Adobe will be charging a year from now for the CC subscription service. any other members for or against?
Advertisement Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 Hi Guest WPalank, Take a look here Creative Cloud. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted September 10, 2012 Share #2 Posted September 10, 2012 I've signed up. It struck me as a very good deal. My understanding is that the current deal is a 40% saving over the regular price (which will be what Adobe will charge in a year's time).

It could be less that $50 as well. Glad to hear that the same deal is in effect in Great Britain as well.
kdriceman Posted September 10, 2012 Share #4 Posted September 10, 2012 William, Ian , How many copies are you given? I.e. I currently use LR and PS on my laptop and my desktop as Adobe allow me to use these products on 2 computers under one license. is it the same, more or less with a CC subscription? Thanks, Ken
Guest WPalank Posted September 10, 2012 Share #5 Posted September 10, 2012 Ken, Great question, I remembered seeing the answer out there somewhere. From the Adobe Forums: Adobe Forums: How many computers can I install my Creative Cloud apps on? "You can install the apps available in Creative Cloud on your primary computer and one backup computer, as long as they are not running at the same time." Second reply from Adobe Staff: "...but when you install on the third machine it will request that you de-activate on the other two computers. You can then reactivate on whichever of the previous two computers you wish to use Creative Cloud on it."

It is intriguing, but I just don't know if I would use enough features to justify $30/mo... Going to maybe $50/mo.
Guest WPalank Posted September 11, 2012 Share #7 Posted September 11, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ken, I get you. With me, I have always been one step away from getting InDesign. In the past, I've had several problems using the Book Smart program with Blurb and getting a suitable result. (I think I know a lot about colorspace, sharpening and getting images massaged for different mediums). Still the result was far from perfect. A very talented Leica Photographer and former Graphics person, Harald Benz, who has won numerous awards with his Blurb Books said you have to use InDesign and download as a PDF. End of Story. he states that he gets exactly what he sees on screen. While at Photoshop World I picked up a DVD/Book/Internet course Pack from PeachPit Press for something like 60% off. So over the next couple of weeks I will work on learning the Software. The course, self paced, actually has you complete a project with the software. Cost of InDesign, $650 not mentioning any updates. At the same time I have been intrigued at the possibility of shooting videos with Leica M lenses, if that is what comes next week. The cost of Adobe Premiere Pro, $675. The ability to have access to both those pieces of software for a year, while I decide "Is this really for me?", is worth the Price of Admission. Plus, I've always wanted to create e-Books for the iPad whether I try to sell them or give them away for free....anyway the decision was a "no-brainer". After a year, I'm out if I don't feel I'm getting my money's worth.
tobey bilek Posted September 11, 2012 Share #8 Posted September 11, 2012 So far plain photoshop does what I need. Others have far greater needs so if you need it , it seems a good deal. I have DSL service upgrade and it barely does decent downloads. Uploads BY DESIGN are much slower. I can not imagine up loading a raw file . Had to discontinue Flikr because of upload times. The good part is your computer is not loaded with all the programs and the latest and greatest is aways available.
